I had three wisdom tooth extractions followed by a couple of months of infection, swelling, osteomyelitis, and even a short bout of trigeminal neuralgia. When the dental surgeon put me under IV sedation to debride away the osteomyelitis, I awoke with strap-bruises across my sternum and upper arms from trying to escape the chair whilst unconscious. All this took place over Christmas (inlaws visited for five days and I cooked for seven throughout), and also incidentally over the period that I left one (20-year) career and started another.
Lost filling, eh. That's terrible! Get well soon! ![]()

poor trish.
I had a bout of trigeminal neuralgia that didn't let up for three years (cranial VII was involved as well just for good measure) and I can't imagine dealing with in-laws and christmas cooking on top of all that. what a trooper! as an aside, a dear friend of mine recently had an upper wisdom extraction go wrong and he ended up with a neat hole punched between his hard palate and his sinuses. I asked him if he could floss it with a piece of cooked spaghetti, and he replied that he'd rather not die of sepsis. you know why a barber's pole is red-and-white striped, right? - to mimic the bloodstained bandages traditionally wrapped around a pole to advertise dental extraction (and other surgical) services ![]() |
