Is iain m banks anything like Orson Scott Card? His Ender's series is absolutely fascinating. I always wondered how hard hard it would be to be a "normal" human but write about the most intelligent beings on earth..how do you accomplish that? I think he does it quite nicely

I *love* Orson Scott Card...
His "Songmaster" is one of my favorite books of all time... and "Ender's Game" captures beautifully what a brilliant child might be like... so capable, yet still, developmentally, a child.

since we're on the subject...
Two of my other faves are Ray Bradbury - his short stories keep my brain busy for months - and Robert A. Heinlein - the earlier stuff, before his writing deteriorated into sci-porn.

Ha ha Sci-porn.
I had a boyfriend give me Heinlein's work's. I was creeped out. He underlined stuff and made personal notes to me about things in it. eeeww.

I had a similar experience with Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" - but it was my fault...
I introduced one of my near-fatal relationship mistakes to this book in college... he began obsessively reading it and started to compare me to Dagney Taggart... for some reason the fact that the characters in the book aren't based on real people but rather metaphors for philosophical ideals was too challenging a concept for him... Never date a guy who reads things like "The Art of War" and "Soldier of Fortune" unless you want to develop a real inferiority complex.
