Oldie but Goodie

There's a chance that this book is out of print, my dad had to read it for his college psychology course and he's fifty-four. The title is "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden", and it was written under the pen name Hannah Green. It's the in-depth look at a mental hospital from the point of view of a skitzophrenic. It's not very long (around two hundred pages), but it's still a good book. The way it was written suggests that the author was once incarcerated in a mental hospital, as the plot and subplots are very believable. I've only seen one copy of it, but if you don't have problems with searching used-book stores and places that sell old college books it'll be well worth your time.

I read that book about 5 times when I was a teenager. It was made into a movie too... I agree, great read. Wow - I had totally forgotten about that book!

Hey, I remember that book! I found it at my best friends house at read it in 8th grade. I really enjoyed it. Never saw the movie though. The copy I read was quite old, but it's actually still in print. It was originally published under the alias Hannah Green, but you can find it now with the author listed at Joanne Greenberg.
We are, of course, now living in what George W. Bush has called the "era of personal responsibility": if a child chooses to have parents who can't afford health care, that child will have to accept the consequences.
