If sight and shape be true,
Why then, my love adieu!

Oh to follow the road that leads away from everything,
without anguish, death, winter waiting along it
with their eyes open through the dew.

-Pablo Neruda, Almost out of the Sky

There could be some benefit to millions of years without sex after all.

Better by far you should forget and smile than that you should remember and be sad.

Memory, so complete and clear or so evasive, has to be ended, has to be put aside, as if one were leaving a chapel and bringing the prayer to an end in one's head.

I died as a mineral and became a plant,
I died as plant and rose to animal,
I died as animal and I was Man.
Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?
Yet once more I shall die as Man, to soar
With angels blest; but even from angel hood
I must pass on: all except God doth perish.
When I have sacrificed my angel-soul,
I shall become what no mind e'er conceived.
Oh, let me not exist! for Non-existence
Proclaims in organ tones, 'To Him we shall return.'

--Jalal ed-Din Rumi (1207-1273) Translated by A.J. Arberry

"In today's deeply interdependent world, war is outdated and illogical. All regions, and all peoples, are interconnected environmentally, economically, and politically. War, oppression or civil strife in one area inevitably affects people in other parts of the world." ~ Dalai Lama

"The belief of the Muslim cannot be the same as that of the Jewish people, nor can the Christian belief be the same as that of the Buddhists. However, the wise man understands all beliefs, for he is one with them all."

If there is an ideal city-- and it is by no means clear that Plato believed in its possibility- then
it can and must be ruled by philosophers. In this case the philosopher must live a double life
(as it were): he will practice philosophy and serve as a ruler. To qualify for this position,
an individual must possess individual wisdom and practical virtue; in addition,
he or she must not want top rule or lead a political life. A person who does want to rule is
by definition, not a true philosopher and thus disqualified from ruling. The philosopher
in the ideal city, however, will agree to rule, in spite of his disinclination to do so.
Since he is a "just" person responding to a "just command," the philosopher is "willing"
to return and rule the c ity.

Masterpieces are not single solitary births; they are the outcome of may years of thinking in common, of thinking by the body of people, so the experience of the mass is behind the single voice.
