Academy Awards Show

Did anyone else watch this today? I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it this year. There were lots of production touches I thought were done in a much more artistic manner than previous years. The graphics were superb - I loved those rotating "panels" they used to present the clips of the nominated items, with the quotes from past films running along the bottom - great details. The opening montage of nominated films was the best of all. And there was a lot of attention paid to categories other than the usual. For instance, when presenting the nominees for film editing, they actually showed a scene from each movie, with three camera angles at the top, highlighting which one the editor chose as the scene unfolded. The presentation of the costume category was also wonderful. It's nice to see the guys "behind the scenes" get some attention for a change. The whole orchestra doing sound effects was very original - well for the Oscars anyway! And I even liked the little dance numbers behind the white screen. I could have lived without Celine and the extra long set of Dreamgirls numbers, but all in all, I was very impressed.

I always love Ellen Degeneres, but I especially loved the bit in her opening monologue where she said that she wouldn't make any comment about there being too many Brits nominated, at least not in that room. But, at home in her pajamas with a half-box of Chardonnay was a different story! And the gowns, oh those gowns.............

Am I the only one that loves Academy Awards night?
