The "Explain Your Username" Thread!
I've always been kinda curious about the history behind the names we choose for ourselves online...
In some cases, the meaning is apparent, like for my good buddy 94cwqujwnn. Or that long time favorite, NakedGirl. She may have been a spammer, but behind that cold, metallic, robotic exterior was a wildly creative piece of software trying to get free. But seriously, especially with the new wave of toasters, please feel free to share your stories here! I'll start: I've always been interested in music (pretty much since my early childhood, where I would vocally match the pitches of sounds I heard, i.e. the telephone, the microwave, etc.), so when I got into improvisational jazz a couple of years ago, I loved the idea of someone being able to create a melody from thin air. It also happened that during that same summer, I became a sci-fi fan and began reading Larry Niven's Ringworld series, which I still consider to be one of the most impressive series ever written. One of the minor characters in the latest book was a ghoul (species on the Ringworld that consumes dead carcasses) Protector named Tunesmith. The name stuck, and when I found out it had to do with music, I decided to adopt it as I gradually became accustomed to the internet (or should I say interblag?)!
