*shudder*, yuck, argh
I love the "gives you a happy thread," but sometimes I want a place to post something in the heebie-jeebie/icky/peeve category. Gotta bring balance to The Force.
So here's a *shudder* to get things going: Apparently, TX scorpion-in-the-house season has come early this year. Fortunately it was spotted and admitted into the scorpion relocation program before it stung anybody. ![]() |

A cupboard full of cockroaches could turn into a cash cow for some Houstonians.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is set to offer the public $0.25 for the first 1,000 live, healthy American Cockroaches that crawl through their doors. But why collect critters that most people go out of their way to kill? The cockroaches will be a part of a display on insect “sanitary engineers.” Apparently roaches, along with other famously unappealing bugs including the dung beetle and the termite, are actually neat freaks. “Cockroaches are fastidious creatures,” said Nancy Greig, curator of entomology for the museum. “They are as clean as the area in which they live, and catching them is a great activity for the kids.” So if you’ve got roaches to spare, gather them up and haul them over to the Cockrell Butterfly Center on May 8 and May 15 from 4-7 p.m. or May 5, 12 and 19 from 12-3 p.m. Donors who bring in bugs after the first 1,000 will be given passes to come back and hang with their former roomies when the new Cockrell Butterfly Center opens on May 25. ![]()

Here's something for you snake lovers...
![]() I actually like snakes...and am only afraid of them when they are afraid of me, but my real animal fear is irrational I know but... ![]() Cows are scary cause they have weird rolling eyes and could step on you with out noticing. They aren't very smart either. They give me true heebie jeebies...eeeewwwww!!! They are tasty though so I forgive them.

fun fact:
pigs gross me the hell out. and, i'll admit, kind of freak me out. if i were walking along, minding my own business, and a pig appeared on the road in front of me, why i'd run screaming in the other direction. ![]()

I was just remembering a shudder of a couple of weeks ago...
I was standing in my kitchen, cooking, and the doorknob on the door the the bedroom nearby turned. By itself. No cats, kids, dogs, etc. in the house, no windows open. It's an old house, with those funky cast iron doorknobs, so maybe it just shifted, but I hafta say, it gave me pause. ![]() |

Not a pic but a good story.
Good in that 'please shut up' kind of way. We pulled out our grill to cook some meaty goodness for the first time this year. It would seem we didn't do a grand ol' job of cleaning her last year. Honestly, it looked clean when we opened it... if you don't count the writhing maggots covering the grill. BBQ anyone?
