I was watching "Animal Precinct" on Animal Planet (one of the best frigging channels in the world) last night, & I got REALLY, REALLY angry @ what I saw.
(For those whom may not know, "AP" is a show about the animal cruelty cases that the ASPCA in NYC deals with; many of the cases are horrible & heart-wrenching, often w/a sad ending. Other times, though, the stories have a happy ending.) This "woman" had a female dog that gave birth to a large litter of puppies; she & her sister threw them out in the garbage. The only way the ASPCA heard about this atrocity was that a few of the woman's neighbors heard the puppies in the garbage can, & got out as many as they could. Two of the ASPCA officers came over right away, looked through the rest of the woman's garbage & found a total (including the pups that the neighbors rescued) of 13 puppies; 3 were dead already, as it was quite cold that day and they were too weak to survive. They took all the puppies to the hospital, & got them taken care of by the doctors. Needless to say, a couple more pups died (cold exposure), despite the help they received. The woman & her sister got arrested, but as to what happened to them afterwards? I don't know, unfortunately. People that are cruel to animals should have the same thing done to them, just to see how it was. It makes me sick to hear & see stories like that; what did the animals do to deserve such awful treatment like that?!?! That's what I'd like to know. Always surprised @ human behavior, even when I shouldn't be... (not after working in the animal care field for 13+ years, that is...) Sigh, LC
