small world! thread
In this thread we tell stories that make us raise our eyebrows and say: "It's a small world..."

The other day I was on the West side of Manhattan and I ran into a hottie that bartends right near where I live. I have a bit of a bartender crush on her and she knows it - nothing out of the ordinary, she is really smoking hot and many of the male patrons there also have a crush on her. Anyhow, we both laughed, she said "hey what are you doing here?", we hugged a bit awkwardly, and then left our separate ways.
That night, I went off to Brooklyn - my friend "D's" new boyfriend was playing in a hip venue, and we were going all to meet there before the concert. I hadn't eaten, and when I arrived I spied a little ratty looking mexican joint - two chairs, two tables and a counter. I walked in, ordered some cheese quesadillas and sat down. Just as I was sitting down, "D" walked in. We both laughed at the coincidence (not an enormous coincidence actually - the concert hall was a few blocks away). "D" ordered some food, we started talking. All of a sudden the hottie bartender walked in ! It turns out that she lives right in front of this mexican place, and comes there often. We exchanged a quick "wow imagine that what are the chances of meeting twice on the same day in different boroughs". I felt pretty uncomfortable for the rest of the meal - I kept thinking that she must think I'm a stalker. "D" found all of this very entertaining. I've seen the hottie bartender since and we talked about the incident. She giggled and said not to worry, she doesn't think I'm a stalker. I hope she meant it, because it's a small world...who knows where and when i'm going to run into her again ![]() Last edited by T.I.P. : 05-13-2008 at 12:34 AM. |

I love small world! stories, and just this morning I was lamenting my inability to post here, because all of my 'small world' stories are really only 'small town' stories because everyone is connected to everyone else.
But, today I was at an information day (with presentations and speeches and that sort of thing). It was run specially for a group of people from my town (all of whom I knew) and another group from a small town about two hours down the coast which I haven't had much to do with. The groups were in different rooms for the most part but as the groups were moving between rooms I glanced at one girl and had the feeling I knew here from somewhere, but I didn't know where. Later in the day the two groups combined and the girl I'd spotted sat next to me and introduced herself. When I told her I'd recognised her face she said she'd done the same but didn't know where I was from. We talked until the presenter came in and neither of us could remember where it was we'd seen each other. I haven't been to her town except while passing through, and I listed all the possible events, meetings, forums I could think of, anything we could have been at together, but nothing. We exchanged email addresses but she said she doesn't use the internet too regularly (which is not uncommon in rural areas around here). On the bus back, it just struck me suddenly - you know how that happens. I'm pretty sure I know where it was now. In April this year, I was in Canberra (that's the capital city of Australia if you were unaware) and, since I was dressed somewhat, erm, unconventionally, a total stranger approached me and remarked upon it. We got talking and 'clicked', as they say. The stranger was on her way to meet friends at the same place I was headed so I went with her and was introduced to maybe 5 other people, one of whom was (I think) the girl I met at the information day. I've sent her an email so now I just have to sit back and wait to see what happens. ![]() |
