I never cared what my kids wore on top of their heads; it's what 's between their ears that's important.

Cruelty, selfishness and unfairness are not tolerated. Peroxide, Elmer's Glue (the beauty aid -- who knew?), green and pink dye and as much damage as they could do with a clippers and nail scissors have never fazed me. If you don't make a big deal, they grow out of it, literally and figuratively.

IN: Glue, dye, sparkles, bleach, wide chops and narrow trims growing out of the top of the head.

OUT: Racist, sexist, intolerant or unkind remarks coming out of the mouth beneath the mop of technicolor hair.

Simple. Not always easy, but pretty simple.

a posting from a spoiled child

i'd like to mention that this is not the only response like this i've gotten, but here is my most recent comment left on my online journal from a zefrank board member.

"You are going to want to ask them to implant a spine when they add your dick. You are the whiniest being on the planet; no one will buy your act as a man. For someone who wants so ****ing badly to be male, you go out of your way to prove yourself female. Toughen up and tough it out; for christ's sake, stop your bawling and move on with your so called life. I am ashamed to know you and embarrassed for you. You are like a spoiled child; any attention, negative or otherwise is still attention."

this is ridiculous.

Some thread-killing thoughts

It's very disconcerting for everybody when someone's feelings get hurt here - I would bet it's even disconcerting for the person who perpetrates the thoughtless joke, though they might never admit it.

As we all know, it's uncomfortable to be disconcerted...and people sometimes have trouble handling being uncomfortable....soooo... people get grumpy when they are forced to. I think that's why you might get mean reactions like that. That's human nature for you, unfortunately.

In a civilized world, it's enough to say "that hurt my feelings" and absolutely necessary for the offender to quickly apologize without getting defensive, no matter how much they object to their victim's reaction.

Whenever someone offers a sincere apology, it should be swiftly and gracefully accepted. This happens all the time on the board. In this case, no apology has been forthcoming to allow resolution, but you needn't be bound up by that - you always have the choice to forgive. Always. That's what's so great about it.
And that's why wise men say that all offense is, in the end, self-inflicted. But when I first heard that directed at me, it took a long time for it to sink in.

For the record, I had no idea that you were transgendered. I simply assumed that you were a gay male - mostly because of the pictures you posted, and the quote under your screen name. With that new knowledge, I can see why you were particularly offended by TC's post.

I also assumed that the two of you were pals ribbing each other the way guys do - a phenomenon I will never understand, but witness all the time. Often I'm reading along and come across an insult that makes my jaw drop. A day later I realize they were just teasing each other, and I breathe a sigh of relief that I stayed out of it.

There's no such thing as over-reacting. We all react the way we react, and for people to require you to react in a way that makes them more comfortable is not copacetic. It's embarrassing to be teased, called names, left stranded to defend a point with no graceful way out, etc. and it hurts. It might help to just feel sorry for that person who posted that to you, because most likely they had to learn the hard way to behave that way to someone else in order to protect themselves.

But I've found that if you can't find a way to breathe and laugh it off, especially if it happens over and over, the best thing you can do is put that person on "ignore" and think on them no more. Shaming the rest of the board for not taking up your cause when you yourself didn't react just doesn't seem like a good general policy in the long term, you know?

Anyway, I'm sorry this happened to you. It's such a friendly little thread, and I'm going to continue to think the best of it. And of you.
And if this long post doesn't kill it, I don't know what will.

i have not followed the controversy or researched it enough to have a conclusive opinion yet, but if topcat made his remark as a shot at deev, even in jest, i think that's pathetic. i'm not saying that for effect and i'm not saying that in fun. if it was meant as a shot, it sucked.

i don't think anyone here comprehends deev's gender identity issues-- i know i sure don't. but that doesn't mean that those issues should be bashed or belittled or that deev's emotions about those issues should be put on trial. someone correctly pointed out that if it had been a racial slur, the world would be up in arms. i recall dozens of people rallying to aid nyc and bashing zero during their moment in the limelight. yet when it comes to something that no one understands, it seems that the en vogue thing to do is just make fun of it and say get over it. **** that. for people who claim to be compassionate, liberal minded, and part of "one human family", seems that it's selectively compassionate, periodically liberal minded, and one human family by invitation only.

but that's just me.

For TC & Deviate (but you've got to sing this in your head...)

Um boom ba bay
Um boom ba bay
Um Um boom ba bay bay

Pressure pushing down on me
Pressing down on you no man ask for
Under pressure
That burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets

Um ba ba bay
Um ba ba bay
Dee day duh
Ee day duh

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming let me out!
Pray tomorrow takes me higher
Pressure on people
People on streets

Day day day
da da dup bup bup
Okay

Chippin' around
kick my brains round the floor
These are the days
It never rains but it pours
Ee do bay bup
Ee do bay ba bup
Ee do bup
Bay bup
People on streets
Dee da dee da day
People on streets
Dee da dee da dee da dee da

It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming let me out!
Pray tomorrow takes me high high higher
Pressure on people
People on streets

Turned away from it all
Like a blind man
Sat on a fence but it don't work
Keep coming up with love
But it's so slashed and torn
Why why why?
Love love love love love

Insanity laughs under pressure we're cracking
Why Can't we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can't we give love that one more chance?
Why can't we give love give love give love?
Give love give love give love give love give love give love?
Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care
For the people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way
Of caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under Pressure
Under Pressure

I missed it. I alienated myself into a corner and had no where to post.
