Through the rails I spied
Your ponytail. I tried With sugar cubes - And they're O.K. But I don't think I'll catch you that way I hate myself 'cause you're so cool With your mocking eyes "Won't you look at the old fool" Wild horses - I want to have Look at you - Unflawed. Now look at me - Plain overawed Grace and looks take no credit for Girl you're young And they're part of the score Like the chemicals at war in me Prefab Sprout - Wild Horses

I met a caveman in the library
And I asked him, "What was your life like?" He said, "For the most part, we were appropriately named. Mostly we just hung around in caves hoping for some food to come along And waiting for the dinosaur to die." I met Moses in the tavern, and I bought him a beer I said, "Mo, there's something that I've always wondered about. For forty years you wandered out in the desert. Didn't one among you think beforehand to have brought some kind of map?" He said, "We waited that the ones who knew firsthand of slavery could die out, Be left behind, buried in the ground. So that no one but the innocent could reach the Promised Land. We waited for the children of slavery to die." Now the young ones, the young ones Begin their wandering through the desert Through TV news, legal claims, and taxes With one eye on the missiles, and one on the obituaries Waiting for the children of the Cold War to die "For we have mortgaged our very future on this defense Anything is negotiable. It is the soviets who have stirred up this crisis. We must undertake air attacks. The greatest need is confidence. Communism is an aberration. I want to do what is principled. Anything is negotiable. Communism is an Communism is an aberration." Helmut Kohl and Maggie Thatcher Yasser Arafat, George Bush and Gorbachev Are of the desert, they will not pass through They will leave their bones behind To vanish into dust And one day bloom again as wheat stalks Beneath the boiling sun As the young ones Begin their wandering Through crack houses, leveraged buyouts, TV news, legal claims, and taxes With one eye on the missiles, and one on the obituaries Waiting for the children of the Cold War to die One eye on the missiles, and one on the obituaries Waiting for the children of the Cold War to die Dan Bern

Still falling
Breathless and on again Inside today Beside me today Around broken in two 'Till you eyes shed Into dust Like two strangers Turning into dust 'Till my hand shook with the way I fear I could possibly be fading Or have something more to gain I could feel myself growing colder I could feel myself under your fate Under your fate It was you breathless and tall I could feel my eyes turning into dust And two strangers turning into dust Turning into dust (mazzy star) |

Two weeks in a Virginia jail
For my lover, for my lover Twenty thousand dollar bail For my lover, for my lover And everybody think that I'm the fool But they don't get Any love from you The things we won't do for love I'd climb a mountain if I had to Risk my life so I could have you, you, you, you... Everyday I'm psychoanalyzed For my lover, for my lover They dope me up and I tell them lies For my lover, for my lover I follow my heart And leave my head to ponder Deep in this love No man can shake I follow my heart And leave my head to wonder Is this love worth The sacrifices I make chapman

here's the silhouette the face always turned away
the bleeding color gone to black, dying like a day couldn't figure out what made you so unhappy shook your head to say no no no and stopped for a spell and stayed that way oh well, okay i got pictures, i just don't see it anymore climbing hour upon hour through a total bore with the one i keep where it never fades in the safety of a pitch black mind an airless cell that blocks the day oh well, okay if you a get a feeling the next time you see me do me a favor and let me know 'cos it's hard to tell it's hard to say oh well, okay oh well, okay oh well, okay |

She rides with the gods of the night,
She rules the tides in me. She crushes the waves with her sigh, And she...oh lord... becomes a part of me, But her care is as sharp as a knife. I'll say, for how can she step away from me, How can you just walk away from me? -Kane |

A family of foxes
Came to my yard and dug in So I looked in a book To see what this could possibly mean 'Cause there's fate in the breeze And signs in the trees And possible tragic events When forces collide With the damage strewn wide And holes blasted straight through the fence The sky starts to crash The rain on the roof starts to drumming And laid out like cash Your take on my list of shortcomings The show starts to close I know how this goes The plot's a predictable showing And although it seems grand We're just one speck of sand And back to the hourglass we're going -Emily Saliers

I can't get that sound you make out of my head
I can't even figure out what's making it no one else around even seems to be noticing it's only small enough for me I can't get that sound you make out of my head I can't even figure out what's making it it feels like fingernails across the moon or do you rub your wings together there's a mean bone in my body it's connected to the problems that I won't take for an answer and I won't take that from you because I'd hurt a fly let you go to sleep feeling bad as me let you go to sleep feeling bad there's a mean bone in my body it's connected to the problems that I won't take for an answer and I won't take that from you because I'd hurt a fly (built to spill) |

I used to think maybe you loved me, now baby I'm sure
And I just can’t wait ‘till the day when you knock on my door Now everytime I go for the mailbox, gotta hold myself down ‘Cause I just can't wait ‘till you write me you're coming around I’m walking on sunshine, wooah! |

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go.
I'm standing here outside your door I hate to wake you up to say Goodbye But the dawn is breaking it's early morn The taxi's waiting he's blowin' his horn Already I'm so lonesome I could die
