Aliane felt compelled as she had never felt before, even when she had snatched down the puppet Prince from his perch. She slowed to a stop, eyes on the coral flowers. They seemed to her to be nodding with the breeze in time to the tune in her head:
"Thief, thief, thief..." She bent close, plucked one, and inhaled deeply of its scent. Immediately, she was overwhelmed by a melange of spicy sea breezes and burning leaves. Her ears filled with the sound of a wall of water dropping from the trees directly overhead. She looked up to see a kaleidoscope of coruscating blooms, expanding wider and wider until they completely obliterated her field of vision. As consciousness faded, her fingers made a desperate clutch for the ornate box housing her Prince, but like Aliane, it fell insensate to one side of the path.

Beat. Breathe. Pull. Move.
Rhythm running steps follow Mujara's heartbeat. Breathe in. Hold. Exhale. Move. Faster. "NOW!" Coral and sea breezes flash by. Dew and sunlight, flowers as big as her outstretched palm. Burning leaves, burning tobacco, smoke mixing through the mists of time. Omens and theives, Princes and Queens, fathers and daughters- all fell to the side of the path as Mujara ran. Sweat drips, following the contors of her womanly face. Foot following stones and dirt, the world becomes smaller, she larger. Was it her imagination? Or did she just see a flicker of darkness to her side? Footpath move now became Mujara. The rest of the world started to tighten around her. Shadows grew into a dark void- no. No! Not now! She could not lose her sight now! The shadows that haunted her father would not haunt her. Mujara ran faster. Faster than the tunnel overtaking her sight. "Fetch my Prince. Now. Before nightfall" Despite the blood rushing through her ears, despite the tightening of the shadows in her world, despite the velvet, the mahagony, the impossiblity- the Queen spoke to her. All Mujara could do was listen. Listen and obey. Last edited by amanda : 07-27-2003 at 03:29 AM. |

she layed in a crumpled heap when Mujara reached her mummuring the word "thief". A waif of a girl, even in her comatose state, she looked frightened. Mujara focused on her face as the rest of the world became clouded by shadows.
"Girl. Girl! Wake up. What is your name?" No answer. Mujara stood up. Because of her tightened vision, she could only see directly ahead of her, only the path. Putting her own satchel down where she would be sure to find it again, Mujara felt the warm ground around the girl- surely she would not be out here alone without provisions. Food, water, something... Something. Mujara felt something- a box made of wood, slightly smaller than her own. Or the Queen's, rather. Her slender fingers traced the outline the details. The inlay was exact- the touch of the wood familiar, the joinery the same. She had found her prince. Mujara whelped in excitement. All these years! These many long years of being stolen away. What her father even called "Mujara's long lost brother", the Puppet Prince was now back where he belonged. Checking the sun, Mujara packed the prince away carefully, picked up the girl and without a moment to lose, headed to the nearest town. |

Odran stood, mesmerized by the spectacle. Syla was very good at dancing, regardless of if she were trustworthy or not. It all ended a bit too soon. He wondered, if he gave them money, would they continue.
He made his way to the collection. “Ogden.” Elsie spoke harshly. “Be careful. Places like these are swarming with thieves. If you’re going to survive out here, you need to wisen up.” Last edited by Melcena : 07-27-2003 at 05:23 AM. |

"Syla!" Kibeth called from her post by the collection box.
Syla turned, the cup of water Toby had gotten for her still half raised to her lips. She walked over to the green-eyed girl, a question in her eyes. "There's been a request for an encore," Kibeth said, gesturing to the couple in front of her. Syla started. Ogden! |

(have one of the guild members read to Papa please)
Dear Papa, I hope the Queen and Prince made it safely back home where they belong. Miraculously, my sight regained with the shadow puppet performance of the queen and the prince together. The girl I found on the roadside is better- her name is Aliane. Together we are traveling the countryside- I am teaching her the art. We will return home soon. With all my love, Mujara |

He caught her eye and flashed her a smile. "We'd like you to continue." He said to the woman behind the collection. "If it's possible."
"Of course it's possible, sir." She smiled. She clapped her hands and called to Syla. Syla eyed them nervously, and then began to dance. "By the way," Elsie leaned over and wispered in his ear. "Ogden is a horrible name." "It's no better than Odran." "It's too harsh." "You can call me Oggy if you'd like. Or Denny, Nedgo, or just Ned." They laughed, still watching Syla's quick feet. "Ogden will do fine." As she spoke the words a man pushed his way on stage. The music stopped, and he knocked Syla to the ground. "Prince Odran is missing!" The man cried. "There is an extensive hunt to find him. We suspect he may have been kidnapped. Please, you see this boy," he waved six servants, all bearing portraits, "Help him to the castle immediately. There is a reward of one-thousand gold pieces for anyone who finds the prince." The man then stomped off the stage. |
