if you're into nonfiction (specifically history & pop culture):
"Low Life: Lures and Snares of Old New York" by Luc Sante is excellent. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...956697-8396001 |

The Gangs of New York , written at the turn of the last century is an entertaining history of the NYC gang scene in the 1700's - 1800's. Its written in an almost folklore vernacular which straddles the lines between truth and fiction.

now, now... (a *little bit* off-topic; sorry)
Just because Leo made the mistake of taking part in a big block-buster flick (in which he wasn't bad) and then doing a teen-angst-fantasy flick (in which he was) doesn't negate the fact that he's a really gifted actor - check out "What's Eating Gilbert Grape", "Total Eclipse", "Marvin's Room" and "The Basketball Diaries" (which wasn't a great movie, but he was good in it). And the major mistake he made was letting his promotional people take the "teen heartthrob" thing seriously. That's not his gift. I bet (hope!) this movie will put him back on the map.

I really do beg your pardon. It's just that....I suppose I'm...Oh, alright then, he's not all bad. (I did wince a bit when I said that, though). Although I think the only thing I ever saw him in was Growing Pains and how long ago was that? And that was rhetoric, don't answer.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion.
