You are being lied to
California Special Election....
OK so the news says that "There are now over 375 people running for Governor of California" This is a bit misleading, here's why: The process for becoming a candidate is: 1. Obtain candidacy papers 2. Pay your fee 3. Get your signatures 4. Turn in signatures and fees with candidacy papers 5. All documentation and signatures are reviewed and certified by the Secretary of State's department. 6. You are now a candidate. This must be COMPLETE by August 13 Now, here are the numbers as of 8/8/03 1:08 PM PST Pending (has obtained papers ONLY): 402 Complete (has Obtained papers, paid fees and presented all necessary signatures: 14 Certified (IS a candidate): 0 So maybe you're not really truly and technically being lied to....but that's a pretty damn big exaggeration. 402 people have PICKED UP paperwork. If that's all it takes to be considered a candidate, then I've been a student at Yale, Harvard, Stanford and Princeton (I did get the applications for those schools). I've also been in the CIA and the FBI (I downloaded applications for them). I've opened about 36 bank accounts and have roughly 50 credit cards. I rule.
