Yes, I've been getting hundreds of those e-mails. The mac doesn't seem to 'care' as it just won't recognise the attachments (.pif, .bat, .scr etc etc) so I just delete the messages.
The Norton software in our office seems to be catching the messages on there so hopefully all is OK. Here is Norton's response page: http://securityresponse.symantec.com...obig.f@mm.html

It's just filling up my inbox with so much crap! Norton is zapping everything but it's just hundreds of them! Is there ANY way to stop the incoming e-mails?

not really. Just ride it off.
You can set up a filter that delete any mail with a *.pif or *.scr attachment but I think that your Norton get to them first anyways.

Yes Rune I think you're right.
I've filtered out mail with those subjects and asked the rule to delete them from my server also (hopefully that will save me getting them all again later when I check mail at home on my mac). I note macs are unaffected BTW. Just batten down and weather the storm I guess!

check the email headers and mail the isp where the email comes from, they can inform the people that are infected.
edited to add: here's something about how the previous versions of the worm work. very insteresting. if you're a geek. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Frieda : 08-20-2003 at 08:34 AM. |

Morning all.
My company hasn't gotten a virus (keeping fingers crossed), but over the past two days we must have gotten many dozens of emails (w/out attachments) with the following subject lines : re: Thank you! re: Your details re: My details re: Movie (et al) I stupidly opened one of the "Thank you" emails, since I wasn't sure if it was from a customer or not; obviously not, since it seems to have opened a whole damn can of worms (no pun intended). We've got an excellent mail filter program, but it's still annoying to check company email and see all the spam. Oh well. I guess it's just one of the joys of computers... Pax, LC

My dad's company had the worm last week. He's a computer tech, and works at a company of computer techs, so it was a bit of a problem. My dad's was one of very few not infected, tho.
