Defrocked Priest John Geoghan Killed in Prison, AP Reports
Aug. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Defrocked priest John Geoghan, who was convicted of molesting a 10-year-old boy and sentenced to 10 years in prison died earlier today from injuries inflicted by another inmate, the Associated Press reported.

Geoghan was injured in the attack and taken to the Leominster hospital, where he died, AP said, citing David Shaw, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety. The other inmate has been isolated and the incident is under investigation, AP reported.

The Roman Catholic Church's problems during the past year regarding abuse by priests emerged from during the trial of Geoghan in January 2002.

While he was convicted of groping one boy at a swimming pool, more than 130 people have claimed abuse by Geoghan during the three decades he served as a priest in the Boston area. The church was then accused of moving Geoghan to other parishes in an effort to hide the abuse
