So embarrassed!

I was shopping at Macy's yesterday and while one cashier was scanning my items, the cashier next to her mentioned that her own last name was difficult to pronounce, I guess continuing a conversation they were having. I recognized the last name as someone's that I graduated with back in 1990.
So stupid me, without thinking, said, "Oh is Rich your son?"
Well she looked really pissed and blurted out, "did you hear what she asked me?"
"I'm his SISTER! His YOUNGER sister!"

Not that she looked old at all.. it was just one of those moments where your mouth runs before your brain.... I spewed out all sorts of excuses... I'm pregnant, I'm not thinking straight... I'm on food meltdown and overheated... I didn't mean it like that at all... you don't look old....

Nothing seemed to placate her... I am sure that I was ten shades of purple.

I feel like an idiot and hate moments like that.
