"uncooked" pizza
I was wondering if you have ever had a pizza prepared the following way:
-thin crust dough cooked with a drizzle of olive oil -fresh spinach sprinkled on top of the cooked dough -shaved parmasan cheese -thin slices of proscuitto. It is not cooked - it's like a spinach and proscuitto salad plopped on top of plain dough. And yes, it falls off, leaving you with just flatbread. I am not familiar with it so it was quite a surprise when they served it to me at a new restaurant I tried this weekend (it wasn't described properly on the menu at all!). It was a flop, and I had them remove it from the bill. (It was $12.00 for 8"!) The description should've said salad on a pizza. Perhaps I am too bourgeois. |

yah!!
It would have been better warm... or maybe with arugula and more olive oil... According to danzinger on yayhooray.com it is an authentic style of pizza... so I was misled by the inaccurate description on the menu. I'd love to find a link online so I can prove to hubby that the chef wasn't smokin crack. |

On the very other end of the spectrum, I used to cook/waitress at a roadhouse-type restaurant, and we made a BLT pizza. Bacon, tomato, cheese, etc. were cooked on the pizza, but before serving we would throw a generous handful of shredded iceberg lettuce on top. It was definitely very lowbrow... but good in its own way. Contrast of hot and cool, gooey vs. crisp, all that stuff. |
