I am always amazed at the readiness our American cousins to repeatedly use the word "WANKER" .The funny thing is ..is that this word is probably responsible for more fights.stabbings,glassings,roadrage incidents and general thuggery then almost any other in the English language . It is in fact one of the most imflammatory statements that you can make to many a British male except of course if he is your mate then it can be a term of endearment

As demonstrated here;

"Fek off you fekking wanker!(hand gesture )"..result =kick off
On the other hand(forgive the pun

)

"(sigh) you silly wanker...."..result =punch on arm and general laughter plus a feeling of well being and acceptance.( of course this is after the prerequisite response which is "Piss off...twat"
