Computer Virus Anyone?

Ever since I put my email addy on my profile here I've been pounded with Virus attached emails (like 10 or so a day). Of course Norton takes care of them, so no damage.

Wondering if anyone else if experiencing the same?

Virus weenies need to get a fvckin life!

Must be all those "guest"s performing moderator duties and viewing the profile of a member...

I wouldn't have put my email address on there... or if I did I would obfuscate it like

I'm not sure if my emails have viruses attached....I don't usually get spams with attachments.

I make a point of disconnecting my connection before running through the list of emails to delete them...just in case they have some means of reconnecting to the spammer (just in case they can confim my email adress or cause some kind of virus harm).

here is a site where you can encode you email adress as html code instead of as yourname@whatever.net...supposedly email adress collection bots can't read the encoded emails yet.

No virus here Norton does his job well and Ad-aware and Spybot do theirs but........
iTunes and Quicktime have ceased to work all of a sudden. They completely freeze up my pc and it hangs for ever.
Any idea's Zemonkeys?

I have used this while presenting our corporate addresses and it works well against bots.

I’ve never gotten a virus yet. The thing I thought was a virus earlier was a really wierd software anomaly.

…My ISP here scans for viruses but my dad gets virus attachements quite frequently. First they were attachments from some spammer who was using his address as a reply-to address for viruses he was emailing. Then there were a couple of “phishing” type virus emails (programs supposedly from a legit company saying they need to “update information” when they are actually stealing the information to rob you.

The applications we get are designed to be run on either windows or DOS based computers- not a problem on the mac. Be paranoid if you own a computer, and be extra careful if that computer runs on windows or DOS. Buy Norton and this other application I read about once - I think it’s called bugzap- which deletes spybots and detects/intercepts invasive embedded spy objects on webpages.

Most importantly, don’t give out your email address and don’t download software you don’t need. Be very careful about what you put on your computer as it could easily contain a trojan virus or worm.

Yeah, virus engineers are real losers. I agree.

I'm still getting them, but they're down to a few a day now. Norton catches them all, but it still bugs me! If theres an email you sent in someones mailbox, and that someone gets a virus, the virus will grab your addy and try and give it to you.

I don't get why anyone has a computer w/out virus protection - makes no sense to me

check the preferences and make sure those programs are not trying to access a network resource that is not available
