Internet Hell - Assistance Requested
it seems SOMEONE downloaded several viruses on my computer and i've been having a hell of a time trying to get them all removed.
currently i have something hijacking my Internet Explorer home page - every time i update it and reopen the program it goes right back to something that's been saved on my harddrive. i delete the file, but as soon as i open my browser again it's reappears. i've run McAfee and SpyBot to try to erradicate the problem, but currently SpyBot is giving me a message stating "Error during check!" and says "Common hijacker" then gives the name of some file that can't be deleted. it's in German. i don't know if there's anything anyone can suggest, but i'm tapped for ideas and i'm starting to get INSANELY pissed. suggestions? |

I've got a free download from www.antivirus.com that is good. It's also a matter of removing all the programs from your registry if you are using a PC. I'll try and find the link on the antivirus site.

clear out your internet cache files, your home page could be reloading the old page from there.
why can't you delete the german file? check the 'properties' of that file and see if it is an archive or a read only file. when i had a file on my FTP site that i couldn't delete i did the following: i disconnected the computer from it's internet access. and changed the properties of that file, on the server it means to'take ownership' of the file. then it deleted. sometimes a file will be trying to access some part of the computer's resources and if can't do what it is trying to do it keeps at it ad nauseum and can't be deleted until it is done trying.you can check in microsoft system informatio under 'running tasks' to see what it is trying to do

The first link is the program and the second link is the readme on the program. You have to download the latest virus pattern . The readme explains everything. |

Then click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > and look for the Run and RunOnce folders. Look for the file the program says you can't delete and delete it if it is in those folders. You may be able to delete it without running in Safe Mode so you might as well try. if you're running XP turn off the restore point before you're cleaning viruses or hijackers:
start -> settings -> control panel -> system -> system restore there's no point in making a backup now anyway as your backup will be infected and your restore point as well, so turn the fvcker off. if you're in a network, unshare all the shared folders. then run virus scanner (if nothing works download the mcAfee stinger tool) and the hijack programs.. let me know what it says! |

1. Pour a can of Red Bull into the back fan vent.
2. Put a Pop Tart in the floppy drive. 3. Hit it three times with a ball peen hammer. 4. Drink a fifth of apple pucker. 5. Repeat.

She's more likely to say something like:-
"sorry to interrupt, but the Constable is here to see you in regards to your public urination charges." |

I woke up to discover that someone hacked into my Yahoo email account and posted a virus to a yahoo group I belong to. I discovered it when I found that I had sent myself an email. I immediately deleted the posting, changed my passwords, ran a virus scan (Norton) (I am clean) and apologized profusely to the board in case anyone did open the email with my name on it.
That has never happened to me before. I wasn't involved, nor was my computer, it was all through the Yahoo email/yahoo groups. It just was me who was lucky enough to be chosen. I don't understand why they just posted to one group though. I belong to a few. A new member joined yesterday and has no profile or email. I wondered if it had anything to do with it. Crap. Some people suck!
