Questions to move you ....

Alors, je pense que c'est temps encore pour des questionnes.

Ok, enough with the poofity poof poof.

Ya ready?

Ya steady? No? Aw, that's OK. Try 'em anyhow.

1. Describe your worst move to a new apartment/house/life.

2. What's the one thing you dread about moving?

3. When you find a new place, do you immediately picture where your furniture will go? Or do you play jigsaw puzzle as you move in?

4. What's been the best place you've ever lived in? Why?

5. What was the worst? Why?

6. What's the cheapest place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there?

7. What's the most expensive place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there?

8. What's your favorite part of your house?

9. What's your one prize possession that's moved from house to house to house with you?

10. Do you have any pets? Cats? What's the best way to gently ease in a kitty to a new place (and hints on how to get the freaky one into the pet carrier without her taking out my eye would be beneficial too)!

And that's all she wrote. Go at 'em if you're so inclined.

Cheers.

~no, but I am so bored and lonely I think I am going to get a kitty soon. The best thing I have ever found to get kitties used to a new place is to rub a little butter on their paws...not alot..you dont want it staining your carpets, but enough that they will lick it off and pick up the scent of your new place....it works pretty well.

So true! Even when my old-old cat was in the vet w/kidney failure and they couldn't get her to eat anything...she'd eat that darn tuna I brought her. Kept her with us another 5 years.

Most carriers are 2-piece held together with those 'screws' that have the little black knobby heads on them. One piece carriers for cats suck. Putting the cat in from the top is much easier than trying to force a posessessed cat through the small door in the front while he/she resists by doing that stradling thing over the opening and the door bangs against the two of you

You'd be surprised how easy it is to just calmly set an unsuspecting kitty in the open bottom half and just cover it with the top, twist those screw thingies in and you're done...oh throw some tuna in there too They still might not like being *in* the carrier, but next time they won't associate *getting in* as this traumatic event.

Hehee, I said black knobby heads

1. Describe your worst move to a new apartment/house/life.
Moving to this city when I was 16 was the hardest. I had just met the ex, and it was my hometown we were moving from, after moving to 3 states in as many years. "6 schools in 5 years & the only thing that's changed is my locker combination"--gold star for anyone who can tell me the movie that quote is from.

2. What's the one thing you dread about moving?
Packing & unpacking. I still haven't totally unpacked from NYC & that was in November.

3. When you find a new place, do you immediately picture where your furniture will go? Or do you play jigsaw puzzle as you move in?
Little bit of both.

4. What's been the best place you've ever lived in? Why?
Hard to say. I liked New Jersey b/c we were in new construction & it was going to be awesome when totally finished.

5. What was the worst? Why?
Ohio. I guess 7th grade sucks everywhere, but it especially sucked in Ohio.

6. What's the cheapest place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there?
I'm still here!

7. What's the most expensive place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there?
My apt in Milwaukee across from the airport, 8 months.

8. What's your favorite part of your house?
Bedroom.

9. What's your one prize possession that's moved from house to house to house with you?
Don't have one anymore, but from the time I was about 11-16, I had a pet rock who also served as a doorstop. His name was Henry & he was a huge(8-10#), beautiful marbled rock from Lake Michigan given to me by my friend Kristin that I grew up with. We moved that rock from WI to OH to NJ & back to WI from 1985-1988. My uncles helped us move in 1990 & I think the quote of the day was, "What are we doing moving a ****ing rock?" and Henry was never seen again. Very sad.

10. Do you have any pets? Cats? What's the best way to gently ease in a kitty to a new place (and hints on how to get the freaky one into the pet carrier without her taking out my eye would be beneficial too)!
Fix her favorite toy. Shine the light into the carrier. Voila! Oh make sure their stuff moves a bit before them. Have toys & stuff out when they are introduced to the new place.

Have Uncle Dave cat-sit them until the new place is ready for them.

1. San Antonio to Miami. Was driving a friend and all his possessions down and a three day trip took six! I won't go into details, just rest assured I didn't kill him and leave his body beside the road.

2. A tie. Loading the truck. Unloading the truck.

3. Depends on whether I feel any inspiration or not.

4. San Antonio. Beautiful city, friendly people.

5. Miami. It was the 80's and murder and mayhem were everywhere. I decided to move to Jacksonville when I walked into a pizza parlor I frequented and found one of the cooks mopping blood off the floor. Seems there had been a hit about four hours earlier and they were still cleaning up.

6. Tallahassee. Four room house we lived in during one of my years in college. Cost rounded out to $40 per person.

7. Home. It's mine now and all the bills are my responsibility.

8. Kitchen, definitely!

9. My tools. Can't make a living without them. I have a hammer that's 30 years old and still going strong!

10. I have a cat and two dogs. Most of my pets have adapted pretty well to a new place. They spend a good week exploring and then a good week making sure I know it really belongs to them.

1. Describe your worst move to a new apartment/house/life.
House fire. Nothing to transport, but everything you owned was gone.
2. What's the one thing you dread about moving? Connection bills. Phone, gas, hydro. All charge too much to change the name on the paperwork.

3. When you find a new place, do you immediately picture where your furniture will go? Or do you play jigsaw puzzle as you move in? Oh definately. I imagine all homes I tour as having my furniture in them. Then I jigsaw puzzle the first two days. Rooms always look bigger empty.

4. What's been the best place you've ever lived in? Why? Tamworth Ont. 5 bedroom Farmhouse all wood. All heated by wood as well. No neighbours but the furry kinds. Some good, some not. Pioneer woman.

5. What was the worst? Why? A renovated century schoolhouse. yellow water, $400 a month for heat and it never got up to 15 celcius, mice, frozen pipes, landlady introduced me to her son after noting I had "Good Birthin hips". Scarey 'Deliverance' atmosphere. Spent Christmas alone in bed to stay warm with no food, no tv, no one. It was awful.

6. What's the cheapest place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there? Cheapest this one. I've been here since 2001 and that is the longest I've lived in any place but one. I lived for four years in one house. I have lived in 28 homes now.

7. What's the most expensive place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there? Park ave, almost 3 yrs.

8. What's your favorite part of your house? My home office

9. What's your one prize possession that's moved from house to house to house with you? Grama's leather topped coffee table.

10. Do you have any pets? Cats? What's the best way to gently ease in a kitty to a new place (and hints on how to get the freaky one into the pet carrier without her taking out my eye would be beneficial too)! Always have had cats and dogs. All animals get to wander the car and then enter the house as we do. They get locked into the bathroom or bedroom as the furniture and boxes come in. Then we all roam through as we start to unpack. I do bring a blanket off the bed at the former home. I lay that down and the pets like to lay on it and watch the unpacking.

1. Describe your worst move to a new apartment/house/life.

One of my roommates was a college student working on his second degree. He was a family friend, and we both decided to room together. Thing is, every six months, I would have to move, because I couldn't afford a two bedroom, while he was off working his summer job. So in two years I moved 4 times, and he was never there to help pack, because he worked as stage manager at the university he went to, so the week of the move he was never there to help to pack or move! Weasel

2. What's the one thing you dread about moving?

Packing.

3. When you find a new place, do you immediately picture where your furniture will go? Or do you play jigsaw puzzle as you move in?

I picture where things should go.

4. What's been the best place you've ever lived in? Why?

I lived in a three bedroom townhome with 2,300 square feet and a finished basement. I loved it because it was roomy, and we had an end unit, so it was quiet.

5. What was the worst? Why?

I moved in with a sorority in college. I wasn't a member, and those girls were a bunch of back stabbing bvtches. Not only to me but their so called "sisters" They made me sick, I moved out after 2 months.

6. What's the cheapest place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there?

I was on detail to D.C. and my corporate apt. was furnished and paid for by my employer.

7. What's the most expensive place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there?

The place in D.C. was the most expensive I ever lived in (even though I did not pay for it). It was $2,300 a month. I was there on and off for 16 months.

8. What's your favorite part of your house?

I don't like my house anymore. Probably my bed room.

9. What's your one prize possession that's moved from house to house to house with you?

My cat Knuckles

10. Do you have any pets? Cats? What's the best way to gently ease in a kitty to a new place (and hints on how to get the freaky one into the pet carrier without her taking out my eye would be beneficial too)!

Yes three cats. Wrap your kitty in a towel, so her eyes are covered, and ease her into her carrier. I would confine her to one room in the apartment or house for a day or two, with her food water, and liter, and a nice blanket, or favorite toys. Then I would slowly let her explore at her own pace (i.e. open up two rooms to her, and leave the doors open, but never put her in a situation where she feels she is trapped).

And that's all she wrote. Go at 'em if you're so inclined.

Cheers.

1. Describe your worst move to a new apartment/house/life.

From Pennsyltuckey to here. The movers piled everything into my tiny, TINY apartment and we literally had to move one box back to get into another -- much like those shifting square puzzle games where you have to move the squares around to make a single image. It took FOREVER to get everything in place.

2. What's the one thing you dread about moving?

The couch going over the balcony to get out of the place and over to the new one. Someone should film it. It's gonna be a lot of makeshift ropes/pulleys/praying it won't tumble to the ground.

3. When you find a new place, do you immediately picture where your furniture will go? Or do you play jigsaw puzzle as you move in?

So far I've had to envision, only because I have to figure out what I'm able to keep and what I put out on the sidewalk to have disappear in under 5 minutes.

4. What's been the best place you've ever lived in? Why?

Best place was, sadly, in Pennsyltuckey. Upper two floors of an old Victorian, four bedrooms, for $600 a month. *sigh*

At least now you understand how I amassed so much crap.

5. What was the worst? Why?

Aside from being homeless for a couple of weeks and living in a park in Vancouver, the home we finally wound up moving into was the cockroach motel. Every night, the roaches would mambo down from the pub on the corner to settle in for the night at our place. It was hideous, cockroaches EVERYWHERE.

6. What's the cheapest place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there?

See #4, I was there four years.

7. What's the most expensive place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there?

Here. I paid $1500 a month for less than 500 square feet. I dutifully paid that rent for three years.

8. What's your favorite part of your house?

My bedroom.

9. What's your one prize possession that's moved from house to house to house with you?

The front page spoof they made from my very first job as a going away present, photo of me in the West Wing at the press conference podium.

10. Do you have any pets? Cats? What's the best way to gently ease in a kitty to a new place (and hints on how to get the freaky one into the pet carrier without her taking out my eye would be beneficial too)!

Thanks for all the tips! I will attempt to try them all, because I have a feeling I'll HAVE to try them all to find one that works. It's ok, I have the peroxide ready for my cuts.

1. Describe your worst move to a new apartment/house/life.

Moved into a inlaw unit behind a place my aunt and freeloading cousin were renting. Ended up getting thefted by the cousin on a regular but hard to prove basis...jumped at a chance to get hell outa there into a new place

2. What's the one thing you dread about moving?
yes.........packiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnggggggggg... Oh...and all the lifting and carrying, and of course all of the carrying and lifting, then the unpaaaaaacccccckkkkkkkkiiiiiinnnnnngggg. other than that its kind of cool to move into a clean space and set it all up all cool with your stuff...only to realize that it is at that very moment of final "assembly", the cleanest it will ever be during your occupation of that space.

3. When you find a new place, do you immediately picture where your furniture will go? Or do you play jigsaw puzzle as you move in?
I arrive with a diagram drawn up, all rooms accurate in scale and furniture drawn to scale in place....it gets all the big stuff situated fast and boxes can then be strewn around without getting actually in the way.

4. What's been the best place you've ever lived in? Why?

My current place. i got plenty of room, a good neighborhood in a pretty town. I love my garden rough and somewhat neglected/fending on it's own as it is. My cats are happy.

5. What was the worst? Why?

see #1.

6. What's the cheapest place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there?

When I moved into my current place it was a steal at $500 a month...it has since gone waaaayyy yup but i'm still here...for 12 years now.

7. What's the most expensive place you've ever found/lived in? How long were you there?

Well now...that again would be my current place. ...

8. What's your favorite part of your house?

My covered porch...or the bench in my garden.

9. What's your one prize possession that's moved from house to house to house with you?

I have a chair made of corrugated cardboard, made for a 3D art class in art school, that has gone everywhere with me, and has been used variously as a step stool, tv stand, side table, breakfast table, and general stuff pile support mechanism. The art assignment was to make something out of one sheet of cardboard that could support our weight without using glue or fasteners other than made from the one sheet...mine ROCKS...it is soo sturdy, the whole class could have stood on it. It will probably outlive me *pats self on back as I do everytime I think about my lil chair*

10. Do you have any pets? Cats? What's the best way to gently ease in a kitty to a new place (and hints on how to get the freaky one into the pet carrier without her taking out my eye would be beneficial too)!

I got both my cats since moving here...they are 9 and 7 years old now.
