Bink's ami report

On the way over to Miami, we stopped in the everglades and this was the parking lot...
the white things are the parking bumpers!! The dark grey things are....real!

then we went to Miami Seaquarium and fooled around

then we watched the cruise ships leave!

Bink wants to live there now, but I don't think he's quite thought it out.

No dirt pile
no chickens
no bulldozers in the side yard
no english

nah, he wouldnt like it for long.

Whoaaaaaaaaa.... let's just back up here for a moment...

Why would anyone park their car, and then GET OUT OF IT with live alligators ANYWHERE in the vicinity? Are the tourists that stupid there or what? Oh wait...sorry Aud...why were YOU standing there taking a picture?

Or are these domestic-poser alligators with all their teeth removed?

I've actually stood (accidentally) about 4 foot away from a 12 footer! For some strange reason, they don't give a rat's ass where you are. I don't know why. There would be more reported deaths, i think if they actually did jump after people. I don't recall hearing anything like that...but if there was a nest around and babies, they'd be a lot more defensive. Not one of em moved (and there were actually 5 there) no matter where we were, but we didn't get too close, only about as close as the pic shows...Bink took off for the store behind me, as he had the major creeps.

Honest, I've been this close 100 times, they never move an inch, cept maybe to drop off the logs and swim away.

The most heinous stupid thing that tourists do here, is stop dead in the road to look at em. That'll get em killed every time. Somebody comin along behind them clockin 80, then smashes in to the back of the tourist gawkers, that's the only way the alligators get them killed!

That 12 footer's head was about 2 foot across, and some tourist idiot with ME, was throwin rocks at his head, and he still didn't move. His head was on our side of the bank, and we were kinda angry at the guy. kinda, well, more than that.

I've never heard of a tame one!! The indians stick their heads in their mouths, but other than that, I can't think of any other tricks. I've heard you can hold their mouths shut with your hands, its when they clamp down you can't get em off. eeeeuuuwwww.

We had one in a pond once, and the trapper came and took him like 50 miles out in the glades and dropped him off, and within 2 yrs he was baaaaaack.

We had an 11 foot gator soaking up the sun in our driveway about 4 years ago (I live by the bayou). He never moved either until animal rescue showed up!

I have a friend who used to train volunteer rescue personnel around the Bink's-ami area. One of their training exercises was to go out into the Everglades for a day.
His favorite story is about stopping by one of the canals and getting everyone out and down to the waters edge. He asked everyone if they had ever been close to an alligator before. Nobody said yes.
He asked them if any of them had noticed that he had been sitting on one the entire time they had been talking. He was alone by the side of the canal after that.
He also freely admitted that had the gator moved a toe that he would have been the first to hightail it outta there!
The only gator I have ever had a problem with is the one we saw at Billy's Island in the Okefenokee. A story I told on another thread here.

**********

Back to the original subject, glad Bink had a good time on his visit to his town!

(Edited to give that town it's proper name...)

Oh man, he loves "the city"...even when we get close to town here, if we see a tall building it's the city. We were in downtown Atlanta once, and lightning hit nearby and he loved it. It was huge, and it echoed. Maybe that's it.

Great pics, Audreyvgs. I love the sign - "Please don't feed the alligators." There are people crazy enough to do that?!

They do it all the time, like if they live in a condo on a lake, they feed it so they can get it to come over for like when friends visit, then they get pissed off when someday they just can't find their poodle.

absolute truth like 25x a yr
from poodle to labs.

How horrible! Can you imagine losing your Fido to a big ol' alligator? What a creepy way to die.
