How good is your doc?

Here's an interesting little search engine:

You can find out if your doc has been disciplined for anything

Or you can find out extra info about him or her

----

These links are only for New York State, but I imagine other state websites would have something similar.

It's quite interesting.

Wish we had something like that here.

Complaints to the Medical Board get "filed". You can be drunk on duty, kill some-one by tying off their carotid artery despite a room full of people saying "that's the carotid artey", or as in my case, sleep with your girlfriend instead of attending patients and then give the wrong anaesthesia so that the patient feels the major surgery and walk away scot free to do it all over again.

Complaints to the government body responsible are either filed or met with an offer of "mediation" which involves the complainant bringing a prepared list of questions (given to the hospital or dr beforehand) to a meeting. No deviation from the list is allowed. The hospital/dr is not obliged to respond or appear in any case.

Complaints direct to the dr or hospital again are "filed" and/or met with "speak to my lawyer". Lawyers can only help the person file a suit, not provide answers or explanations or even "sorry"! Hello!

Settlements out of court are usually confidential and as we all know, the only cases that do make it to court (and into the public eye) are the ones the dr's insurance company thinks are worth fighting ie they are usually reasonable dr's with a good argument in the case.

Obviously insurance companies' files are also confidential.

Bitter and twisted? Mad as a cut snake? You betcha.

Gah this makes me smile ... can you imagine if there was an option to call for help in Jamaican patois?

"Braddah mi cyanh fine a daktah, ah weh mi gwine go feh mi pickney dem?"
