Soooooooo...tellllll meeeeee.... (inspired by Klynne)
I just curious...for those of you out there who follow a higher power...I'll just use the word "god" for the sake of giving it a form...when do you know you've heard god? How do you know what god is telling you? What do you do to keep in communication with god? Do you always hear god when you're questioning god?

My mother invited me to bible study tonight.
I declined. Fast forward an hour and a half. Some men knocked on my door, asking if they could come in & talk to me about Jesus. You do the math.

I believe there is something like a higher power. But I despise every form of religion.
History has proven too many times that religion can be dangerous, starts wars and prevents people from thinking for themselves |

Hearing God....now is that audible...?
i just dun think he works that way. Bible points to him revealing himself through his word--meaning the Bible. Prayer would seem like the best form of communication. again i dunno if u mean audible hearing...perhaps it is the voices in your head?

Damn, that was a long quiz. I scored 15...
But I wasn't talking about the bible.. The bible is just a book, on which christian religion is based. I don't despise the bible; don't get me wrong! I despise the way churches, priests of every religion abuse power, trying to get rich over the heads of their followers. |

32....interesting quiz...howbeit those answers were twisted...u can pretty much prove anything using the Bible if you take it out of context.

Yes I believe in a higher power; yes, I believe in God.
How do I know I have heard from Him? I knew it the first time I looked into my child's eyes. I knew it when I looked into her child's eyes. I knew it when I was ill and asked for help and received it. I made a promise then in return and I intend to keep it. I don't care what anyone else thinks about my beliefs; they are entitled to their opinion. It will not alter what or how I believe. and I will not try to change their beliefs, whatever they may be. I agree with Weissen on a few points. The biggest being: Organized religion has given God a bad name.

Whenever anyone asks, I tell them I have no religion. 99% of the time they ask me if I'm an atheist, to which I answer no. Like Mr. Flatz, I believe organized religion is the cause of too much of the worlds suffering.
I do pray. I've also practiced meditation since 1972. I had a T'ai Chi teacher a few years ago who said that prayer is when we talk to God and meditation is God's answer. This is when I hear God. He doesn't tell me what to do, or say, or think, but when I meditate (And it can be done all the time) I feel His Peace. That's good enough for me. |

I've been spoken to by God many times.. not audibly.. in a big boomy voice! But not always through the Word either. A lot of the time its through things that happen, things other people say... some might call them coincidences. Things I see and hear on tv. I call them gentle pushes in the right direction

I am going to agree about organized religion. I have had it to here with it.
But I do believe there is something more. I don't necessarily think that there's a Divine Scorekeeper, but the idea that the universe originated in a cipher and is aimlessly whirling nowhere is, to me, as insupportable to the scientific mind as the idea of a Divine Beancounter who cares if I said something stupid in 1986 (I undoubtedly did -- LOL). I talk to Spirit through meditation, and I often receive my answers through people. Spirit puts us here to help one another; whether or not we do is on us. That's just what I believe. Love is the only important force, the only power stronger than hate or death. And if you do good, you will be rewarded, if only by the feeling that you have done good. Sometimes that's all you get, but if your heart's in the right place, that's the best reward you could ask. It's a paradox. Anyway, that's what I think about it. Your mileage may vary. ![]() |

God grabs me by the back of my neck and slams my face into the wall. Repeatedly. It’s like “Wash, Rinse, Repeat” in my world. I totally deserve it though. God makes no bones about it with me. He gets the bullhorn and sticks it in my ear screaming and shouting. You would think I would have learned and be a saint by now. Once I was having a biblical discussion on God and marriage and God’s plan, then I went to Sunday service and the sermon was practically a word for word repeat of what I heard just the day before. I was ready for a big light to just shine on me and beam me up or something.
So, here is my story. My name is Spicy and I am a recovering Catholic. I pronounced myself atheist to the world and shouted it at the top of my lungs for about 4 years and then God showed me his plan and now I understand. I am a believer in God’s word, as in the WHOLE Bible, Old and New, and not what someone else tells me. I read it, make my own logical interpretations, and make an effort to do what I am suppose to. The best picture of God is looking back. Looking back at how he has orchestrated your life and why her has placed certain people and events in front of you. “Everything has a reason” and that has been made VERY clear to me. |

No organized religion here.
I think God is something not definable and unimaginable in human terms, any more than a 2-dimensional cartoon character could define or imagine us. I think God is a *something* that includes us and everything in our universe, and much more. I think that all God requires, if God requires anything, is for us to try to love each other and help each other. At least, that's how things seem to work best. I think more than hearing God, I become aware of God in daily occurences related and unrelated to me, and in the consequences of my actions, positive or negative. Not exactly karma... more like grace. And I try not to put too much stock into that either. Sometimes things just happen. That's it at this date.

IMO, It's PEOPLE, not religion (god, buddha, whoever) that start wars, cause dissension, try to run other people's lives, etc. You can be religious and use your brain at the same time.
I certainly hope that there is something much better than this life.
