Unhappy Sad story...

I was coming home yesterday afternoon when I came up on a 3 car accident. I went running to the first car where a woman Norma, her husband Willard and their grandson Matthew were riding. When I got to the car a woman was leaning over Willard checking for a pulse and his grandson was doing his best to give CPR. I tapped on this young man’s shoulder and told him I would take over. I started breathing for Willard for what seemed like forever. After about 3 minutes of CPR I could see that his mouth was filling up with blood. I said a silent prayer for this man and his family and he took his last breath in my arms.
After the paramedics and fire fighters got everybody cut out of cars etc, I went to find the grandson. He was in an ambulance with his grandmother’s poodle. When that little boy looked at me he still had a ring of blood around his mouth from trying to help his grandfather (he couldn't have been more than 14). I told him that he really stepped up to the plate and acted like any grown man would to help his family. (I want to find his parents to tell them how brave he was and how mature beyond his years he is). I have two boys and hope they never have to grow up that quick.
One of the many sad points to this story, the driver of the car that hit Willard was so drunk you could smell it walking up to the car. Another sad point, Willard was 2 blocks from his house.
I was raised in a “medical family”, was married to a paramedic/fire fighter and have seen death many, many times. But for some reason, I just can’t get this old man’s face out of my head.

(((((lvly)))))

All I can say is that maybe it's because you saw the utter stupidness of his actions so up close and personal. Only 2 blocks from home..forever.
It is different than seeing it in a hospital setting. You got to see how it affected everyone right then and there And no one worth their salt ever goes unaffected by death.

I think more than anything I have such an overwhelming sense of pride for that young boy. His grandfather was probably around 75 or so, so he lived a life. I just hate it when children have to be exposed to such horrible things.

Glad you did; it's good to have a place you can bring stuff like that, and it's pretty major stuff.

*hugs*

I've got the last name of the family now. When would it be appropriate to talk to the father of the grandson? Should I wait?

I think when the moment is right you'll know.
We face death here at the clinic but not in such a sudden, purposeless way. You and all involved will be in my thoughts today.

Ahhhh lovely one, I think that what you did is amazing, and that your thoughts for the grandson show how big your heart is.

Aaw, sweetie, that's so sad. Thank you for sharing.
*BIG HUG*
Tell the boys father whenever you're ready. I'm sure anything "good" coming out of that sad event would be welcome to him.

*speechless*

sometimes things happen to us so that we can help others. God knows who has the strength enough for such tasks.
