The conversion rate for 88 cents per litre, taking into account both dollar value vs. USD and metric to US gallons, comes to

(it closed at 1.3902 Friday, Bank of Canada)
(there are 3.785 litres per US gallon)

about $2.40.

It becomes SO damn hard to complain to Europeans about the cost of gas when they pay over $4.00 a gallon. We Americans hate that!

I think there was a treaty way back where they agreed to pricing it by the litre there, so that we wouldn't have their per-gallon price thrown in our face whenever we started whining.

(On the other hand, they DO have universal health care.)

Make that more like £4.40 per gallon, not $$$, and at the moment it's hitting £5 per gallon for unleaded in the UK. That's not so bad as at the moment the £ is STRONG against the dollar, so all the uncertainty we and the Yanks have stirred up in the Middle East isn't hurting us as much as it ought to.

But c. 75% of UK petrol prices is fuel duty.
