Analyze this
What do you do when a friend suddenly turns around and tells you...
"I don't need anyone to be happy." Because I certainly don't know what to make of it. Is it defensive; aggressive; apathetic... what is this maan, what!

And it's good to be in charge of your own happiness.

It means you friend is momentarily thinking about himself, and noone else. Given time, this will change.

The subject is "happy" That's all. Why fear people that can make their own happiness? It doesn’t necessarily imply that others can’t make them happy too.

i think it means that what others think or feel does not affect his own happiness. doesnt mean he doesnt care, just that he doesnt rely on others to set his moods.

Well, you could ask her why she said it.
I hope she was saying it in the sense agentsmith describes and not in the mean, "who needs you?" way that some people will turn around and claim is "only being honest". For right now, what I would do is either to ask what she means so that you can discuss it further (and in terms of what it might mean relative to you), or to say "Well, that's good, I suppose," and wait to see if there is more she wants to say. I'd vote for asking. It never hurts to ask someone to clarify what they mean. Then, the door is open for further discussion. Talk about it with her. |
