Mad as a wet monkey

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have had it with the rain. My roommate told me he thought the water meter was leaking yesterday. I ignored him, and after work today, I came home to do some laundry. I went to the basement and there was water everywhere. I tried to find the source, and determined it wasn't the water heater so I called the city to come and check out the meter. Wasn't the meter either. We have had so much rain in the past couple of days that the ground is saturated (city guy explained this to me), and has nowhere to go except for in my basement. I have a dehumidifier going, but we are suppose to get more rain tonight dammit.

We have had a mud slide and sink holes are forming! Crazy!

OK weird. I was about to moan that it's almost winter and we have had no rain and then it started to rain.

Yep, I hate the rain

After we got the bedroom furniture moved out yesterday to shampoo the rug, we noticed the floorboards were warped because of the lake .... yikes.

It still smells mouldy. I think it's into the floorboards and no amount of scrubbing will get rid of it.

Do you have a dehumidifier? If so, use it. If not, buy one. I only have one, but might run out and get another.

Sprinkle bicarb, leave it over night, then vaccuum.

How does that help with the mould smell? If it's a cureall, you better believe I'm out the door to get one now.

Mad: The bed is over the carpet, which is over the boards/floor ... the whole bed has to be moved out of the room to get in there. I scrubbed the floor with pinesol yesterday .... bicarb would probably just cake up the mess -- I used a rug shampooer and that didn't seem to work .. ugh. It's such a mess.

P.S. Klynn I'm really sorry to hear about your mess ... sinkholes! Oh man, I hope it's not a pia to get it fixed. You have my sympathies.

nyc - thought you still had the furniture out. Getting everything dry is the key. Humidifier might just work.

It won't help with the smell, but it does take the moisture out. My basement is partially finished, and when I have had problems with moisture before, the tiles started to curl. I bought a dehumidifier and after I ran it for a day or two, the tiles quit curling. Thought one might help keep your floor from warping further.

No sink holes at my residence, just in the city. Thanks for the sympathy though, I can use it.

It still may be worth a shot, especially if it has only been a week. Now if it were a month I would not bother.

I've found that the dehumidifier does help with the smell. It takes about a week though.
