For NYC and others.. :)
I don't care what is written about me so long as it isn't true.
I might repeat to myself slowly and soothingly, a list of quotations beautiful from minds profound - if I can remember any of the damn things. If all the girls who attended the Yale prom were laid end to end, I wouldn't be a bit surprised. If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to. Take care of the luxuries and the necessities will take care of themselves. The best way to keep children home is to make the home atmosphere pleasant - -and let the air out of the tires. They sicken of the calm that know the storm. This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force. That would be a good thing for them to cut on my tombstone: Wherever she went, including here, it was against her better judgment. They sicken of the calm, who knew the storm. -- DOROTHY PARKER WAS BRILLIANT ![]() thanks NYC

Some more
)Scratch a lover and find a foe. Sorrow is tranquility remembered in emotion. The two most beautiful words in the English language are "check enclosed." Wit has truth in it; wise-cracking is simply calisthenics with words. Work is the province of cattle. You can't teach an old dogma new tricks. Art is a form of catharsis. Brevity is the soul of lingerie. Men seldom makes passes At girls who wear glasses. The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity. Hollywood money isn't money. It's congealed snow, melts in your hand and there you are. If you want to know what god thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to. I require only three things of a man. He must be handsome, ruthless and stupid. I'm never going to be famous. My name will never be writ large on the roster of Those Who Do Things. I don't do any thing. Not one single thing. I used to bite my nails, but I don't even do that any more. Love is like quick-silver in the hand. Leave the fingers open and it stays. Clutch it, and it darts away. The only ism Hollywood believes in is plagiarism. -- maan i love her work

Lest we forget:
"That woman speaks eighteen languages and can’t say No in any of them." And one of my all-time favorites: "Maybe it is only I, but conditions are such these days, that if you use studiously correct grammar, people suspect you of homosexual tendencies."

I adore Dorothy Parker. I used to steal her line all the time: "One more drink and I would have been under the host."
And one of my favorite bits of her verse: By the time you swear you're his, Shivering and sighing, And he vows his passion is Infinite, undying - Lady, make a note of this: One of you is lying. |

What actress was DP talking about when she said, "She runs the gamut of emotion from A to B"?

BTW, did you see the Alan Rudolph film, "Mrs Parker and the Vicious Circle" with Jennifer Jason Leigh? Some people didn't like it, but I thought it was great, and if you're a Dorothy Parker or Robert Benchley fan, or have any interest in the legends of the Algonquin Round Table, it's definitely worth a viewing.
