Ding Dong the Witch is Dead

I can hear the camel's back dividing in half under the strain, and this should do it;

Your really think this will spell the end? I'm skeptical.

The world seems to be divided into two camps over this: The ones who aren't at all surprised (this includes me and, obviously, Lala -- see above's "well, duh") because we assumed Cheney's hand in the matter all along, and those who think it's not even an issue.

But of course it SHOULD be an issue! Why this latest discovery isn't a banner headline in every newspaper and the lead story in all broadcast media is beyond me. Compared with this outrageous and arrogant corruption and the continuing cover-up, the Watergate scandal that brought down the Nixon White House seems downright cute.

As far as I'm concerned, that Congress has not called an emergency session to oust this administration ASAP is a dereliction of their duty to the American people.

Do I think that will happen, or that "the witch is dead?" Nope.

The thing is... this (Cheney's interest in Halliburton) was brought up in the early stages of this conflict... for some reason, mainstream media coverage about it just seemed to peter out, and focused on other things. NYCwriters later posted a link about Halliburton "winning" the contract to help rebuild Iraq (wow, what a surprise) and again, the media just sort of mentioned it and moved on to other things.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but it seems to me that no matter how rotten things get, it's going to take something approaching an act of God to stop the snowballing of corrupt Republican control, either because there aren't enough people brave enough to do something about it, or because the timing may just not be right... I'm praying daily (and I'm not a prayer) that enough people are at least pissed off, if not enough to oust the current administration, enough to replace them in the coming election. I just hope it's soon enough.

If I recall correctly, Cheney and Halliburton was an issue as long ago as the 2000 presidential election campaign.

I noticed that this story came and went really fast in allthe newswires. I had to go back in the history on my computer to even get the story, it was there and then it was gone, I couldn't find it again... I assume this means that this is under the rug now. I was hoping it would have been a bigger deal. It's what this whole war is about. (in my opinion)

this war in iraq is all about oil. it has always been about oil. how many americans lay awake at night worrying about the iraqi people's freedoms.bush and cheney are both oil men. why havent we heard about this more, maybe freedom of the press isnt so free. just some of my unintelligent thoughts.

It obviously came and went BETWEEN editions of the SF Chronicle, because the Chron didn't even MENTION it. Who among you conspiracy theorists has had the thought that the Bush administration is behind the media whirlwind covering the Peterson trial as a means of pushing negative stories about the war off the front page?

And this is yet another reason why you all should all buy my paper. We were the ones who started the examination of contracts, our columnists criticized it -- the rest sat back and watched, then jumped on the "oil bandwagon." I'm kind of proud we were the one to "break" it.

On days when I wonder what the hell I'm doing in this job, this kind of thing reminds me. Thanks.

I understand completely, but based on this...

... I think you should stick to editorial and turn down any position in marketing. Telling prospective readers the name of your publication is often helpful in meeting sales quotas!
