Four things

... on my way home, I saw a rat scurry across my path about the size of a terrier dog.

... We have wrought iron fencing in front of the building where we throw our trash for the week. A homeless man has taken a mattress that he found in the other trash and made a little home for himself inside the gates. The mattress takes up the entire interior gated area. He's snoring.

... someone is doing some major recording next door in that studio. Holy loudness. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

... my very gay neighbor came out of the building roaring drunk and proceeded to air kiss either side of my face and call me sweetie. I think he was wearing makeup.

I'm not sure which is the more bizarre event of my nightly walk home.

Four other things

Bink crashed big time today on the BMX track. He crashes every day. Cries, comes in, gets wiped off, goes back. The course jock straightens his handlebars before he goes. The track is made of orange clay, probably from Georgia...the inside of my Element is starting to look like GA.

Dad's got most of the front of the studio plywooded.

We're watching my sisters boyfriends dog while she watches her ex-boyfriends dog. My house is way too small for this.

Mona needs an emergency butt-shave. Not me, no way.

four more things

I almost got in an accident yesterday. Wasn't paying attention for a sec (just zoned out) and the next thing I knew I was braking hard enough to put my foot through the floor. Scarily, I was on a slight right curve next to the concrete median, which I came about an inch away from sliding along... I didn't, but now I have a $500+ repair to do on my car - the rack & pinion got all messed up/stretched from the stress...

Usually on my way home from work, I drive through Griffith Park. As I entered the park tonight, I happened to look up above some trees, and saw what looked like columns of smoke above a few of them. I stopped the car (no one else was around) and looked up at them, wondering if I should call the fire department. As I watched them, they seemed to get darker, then lighter again, and then I realized they weren't really drifting up, just staying in place... Then I realized that I was seeing huge clouds of small insects, grouped into columns above the trees. Kinda cool.

I stopped off at a store on the way home tonight (I needed new bras ) at a chain clothing store. Both the salesgirl and the checkout girl were really helpful and friendly (usually at this chain the csr's are kind of detached and demoralized). I made a point to tell the manager that I'd had a really good experience, and pointed to the two women... he just sort of responded with a dazed, "Uh, okay..." Guess he was so used to people complaining he didn't know what to do with a compliment...

I keep forgetting to buy stamps.

and four more things..

Just as the scab on my left forearm is nearly healed, I grazed my other forearm at kungfu last night. Hannah put some antiseptic iodine spray on it - she said it wouldn't hurt, she lied.

I also nearly crashed, twice yesterday. Both as I was just setting off, those 'cars that come from nowhere.'

Today I shall be travelling across most of the 'Snake Pass' over the Pennines.

Its almost time for the "Annual safety shoe issue 2004" I know this cause I just printed the poster off for Andy - A3 size.

Yet again four more things

I dreamed that a water moccasin got in my house last night. Woke up and didn't want to get out of bed until I checked the floor. The cat was sitting on the floor beside the bed wondering what the hell I was doing looking underneath the bed like that.

My hot jalapeno peppers aren't especially hot. I know this because I ate three of them raw last night.

Kodi needs a butt shave, too. That's why we have dog groomers...

Even with gas prices going through the roof everywhere, when I filled up last night I still only paid $18.00 for a full tank. So, nyah!

I took my kids to the doctor yesterday and both are healthy and one is tall for her age and one is short for her age. I am amazed I made a tall one! We are all around 5'2 or 5'3". My 13 year old is 5'6".

My dog and cat are lounging in the sunlight coming in the sliding glass door.

My bike is at the office and I will have to walk to work today. Oh well, that means I get to have a coffee on the way.

I have walked or cycled at least 3 hours each day all week. Good for Me! Good for those I convince to come with me!

There was a baby bunny hanging round the house outside all day last Sunday. It looked wary and sad, but didn't move around much. I imagine baby bunnies don't last long without their mamas, but it didn't touch the water or gerbil food I put next to it, either.

The arthritis is getting worse again. I am trying not to draw a correlation between hanging with zemonkeys and getting sick. I can expect to live a long time, given my family history.

My friend N. has adrenalcortical carcinoma. The average life expectancy, with chemo, is four years. She lives in Santa Ynez and I am desperate to see her. Thinking about how to fit in a visit that will satisfy both of us, taking into mind considerations of family, available dough, and full-time work, absorbs a lot of my thoughts every day.

Katie the border collie got to go on a long walk with Miss Rat and me in the river valley yesterday, finishing with a swim in the pond. Then she fell asleep on the stairs waiting for me to come up.

I almost fell asleep in SAP training yesterday. Even though I work on a Mac, I have more snap than a lot of peopl in there who didn't get it the first time around.

Training ran long and so I started out later into rush hour traffic. Usually my drive home is no problem, but last night some poor schmo's car caught on fire and took up three lanes of the four-lane highway. It took me 30 minutes to get 4 miles.

After making my way through traffic a horrific thunderstorm let loose on my side of town spitting out hail, high winds and flooding rains. By the time I made it to my neighborhood it had flooded the streets and I had to find an alternative way to get to my house.

All ended well as D and I celebrated our 4th anniversary at The Lexington Grill (one of my favorite places to eat) and a trip to the bookstore.

- Funkina seems to be getting over her cold. There are few things more pitiful than a sick baby. Mrs. is still feeling the effects a bit, so I'm still home from work making batches of oatmeal, tea and noodles.

- I'm enjoying this tail end of my little "break" and not really looking forward to Monday

[....]

- Now I'km multitasking... burping with one arm and posting with the other

- wonder if Mrs' mom will come out anytime soon to help out a bit

Uh, yeah. I did not build or decorate the house, and despite the fact that it is full of amazing, labour-intensive features that finally won me over, I refused to come back and look at it for SIX MONTHS after the initial tour because I couldn't bear to think of that freaking whorehouse pink carpet.
