pretty ambivalent about this. don't know which would be better. that he should rot in hell or go to heaven and have to face the millions who died of aids.

Didn't he do good things too?
Didn't he get the hostages released?

I thought he was better thought of.

Huh? Are you talking about the Iran hostages? They were released on RR's first inauguration day, a release arranged and then held up so that the Ayatollah (and the Republican party) could leave a black mark on Carter's last day in office.

Reagan's death reminds me of Nixon's. Upon his death, much of the nation seems to have forgotten the dishonor Nixon brought to government with his criminal behavior, and the damage his actions did to the relationship we Americans have with our government (damage from which we have not and possibly never will recover).

Unlike Nixon, Reagan left office a political hero, so I assume the amnesia we will suffer now will be far greater than what we suffered when Nixon died.

We will forget - as moN clearly remembers - that his homophobic silence on AIDS, and the resulting lack of research funding and health education is responsible for millions of deaths at home and abroad.

And we will forget that his economic policies widened the gap between rich and poor more than ever, a trend that the Republican party is bent on widening further.

What everyone will remember, and let's just see over the next few days and weeks how much the media assists with this (Peg, want to chime in here?), is that Reagan was the affable "Great Communicator" loved by all and one of the greatest presidents in U.S. history.

Feh!

the one good thing i will say, his lasting legacy - because his ignorance of aids will be swept away - is that he brought down the soviet union through prolonged deficit military spending and the threat of an impossible missile defense strategy. the USSR economy simply couldn't sustain it's attempts to keep up. so. he ended the cold war.

Let's not forget about him raising the shamefully misunderstood ketchup to the rank of vegetable, so that America's public school children would be able to eat a balanced lunch.

That's exactly what I was going to say. Well said, Smarty... Although a long, slow death is something I wouldn't even wish on my worst enemy and definately not his family.

Agent, you're in your early 20's, right? I don't think you were old enough to remember or realize what damage he did. No smart*ss tone intended here, Agent.
