Truth is, I am not sure how I got it.
I had turned off the pc, let the dogs out, and started my bath water when I looked in the mirror. There is was; a real beaut too. Now, I know for a fact it wasn't there this afternoon. And it wasn't there when I brushed my teeth about 8:30 pm. But it is here now, big time. Purple and blue from the bridge of my nose to the corner of my eye. Yep, I'm pretty. ![]() So, being me, I run into the bedroom and demand my husband wake up and tell me if he noticed it. Yes, he says, but I thought you had been crying and it was smeared make up. WTF? Am I Courtney Love now? Now I am angry. How do you get a black eye and not know it??? I revert back to my usual response to such things and I grabbed the phone and started dialing...only to realize I was calling my brother. When I realized what I was doing, I just lost it. First I started crying and then I started laughing; both of these responses upset my husband. He took the phone away and said: stop rubbing your eyes, I think you gave yourself your shiner that way. ![]() I am writing this because I can't tell Jeff, and he would have loved this. I can tell you with all honesty he would have been horrified when I told him and very sympathetic. And tomorrow, he would have stopped after work to laugh and point at me. And I would be fair game for weeks. I know this as well as I know my own name. I had a serious eye injury several years ago and had to wear a patch for 2 weeks and be in the dark for 10 days solid. It was torture and he loved every minute of it. Called me "Deadeye" and bought me a stuffed parrot for my shoulder. Laughed hysterically when I ran into things because my depth perception was so off. Even made me an eye patch with a lovely blue eye on it..which was cute because I have brown eyes. Soooo, I am sharing with you. Laugh all you want, I am used to it and God, how I miss it.

I may not know how to be a brother, but I make a wicked little sister.
Give me your Mom's phone number so I can tell her you got into a bar fight. And Won!!! I wish I could send you a steak! Go shopping with your husband and make him buy you flowers. Ok now. Seriously...are you eating right? Take a vitamin every day at bed time. Stop rubbing your eyes! Any other bruises? Blood pressure? Medications? Call the Doctor and feel reassured. Oh and don't forget to send me their phone number so I can tell them about the bar fight too. ![]()

Ya know, I've tried to respond three separate times to this post.
On the one hand, it's funny and it shows your warped sense of humor. On the other hand, I can feel your loss and my heart goes out to you. So I'm not sure how I should react. It's a funny-sad kind of thing. I wish I had the words to make things better Av. I really do. |

I TOLD you to stay out of those waterfront bars, but do you listen?
![]() It's tough missing someone; always there are those times you think, "Oh, I've gotta tell them about...." WE certainly enjoyed the story! You shoudl tell your husband you've taken up women's boxing and that he better mind his p's and q's. LOL |

I couldn't help but crack up reading the part about your brother buying you a stuffed parrot for your shoulder. What a wickedly funny sense of humor. Maybe you should change your avatar to this for the next few weeks...

I say tell your husband that you are going to tell everyone that he beats you unless he takes you shopping!

Oh, thank you all for your kindness
I just needed to talk alittle; your listening and advice is such a comfort. He was so goofy and so much fun to be with; must be why i like it here on the board. My eye is a sooo pretty this morning! The blue is gone and it is now all purple. I have already gotten looks here at work..the down to the floor, I am not staring at your eye and I will not ask, kind of looks hehehe Yep, Jeff would love the" mystery of the shiner" here at work. Then he would say "that looks sore, does it hurt when I do this?" and poke me in the eye. We were sooo twisted. Again, thanks for letting me vent alittle; it truly does help more than you could know.

Everyone already saw my black eye photo, but in the spirit of solidarity I could repost it.
