mine's a homeless old fart, i'm sure he knows i was thinking about him, even if i didn't send a card to the park bench in the town where i last saw him. i did however call leo's dad to wish him a happy f.d from leo, he was pleased about that.

Spicy: Lucky Dad!
Ally: That's sad. I'm sorry to hear that.
Mine's okay. I'm just an irresponsible f*ck, is all.

nah, not sad at all, e's not really homeless as such, he just doesn't have his own home, kind of lives at other people's houses, changing every month or so (til he gets kicked out, not in a nasty way, just in a, ok can you please bugger off now way, he came to stay with me when i was preggers & after 2 months i suggested he move on & he didn't take it badly at all).

I wrote this and sent/gave it to all the favorite dads I know; mine's in Heaven but it's for him too:

this is to all the guys
who step on tiny toes with big boots
and feel like monsters

to all the guys who try to tie a hair ribbon
only to have the braid come out
and the comb get stuck
and the child begin to wail

to all the guys
who can't see anything wrong
with ice cream for dinner
or what's so bad
about a little dirt
and nobody ever died
from eating still-frozen peas
(did they?)

to all the guys
who ever taught a kid
to throw a right cross
or cursed a stuck valve
in the presence of tiny ears
only to have it
come back
to haunt them

to all the guys
who think that their kid
is the next Coco Chanel
or Martha Graham
or Picasso
or Mozart
or Einstein
or Dave Concepcion

to all the guys
who absolutely refused
would not
could not
absolutely not ever
never
would change a diaper
until the time came

you are good at what you do
you are loved for who you are
you are the fathers
half of how life begins
and we love you

happy fathers' day!

Okay, I got out of that one alive. I called my Da yesterday to wish him a happy Father's Day and to remind him that the government changed the holiday from the 20th to the 21st. Apparently he didn't realize this. Phew!

i wrote this for my dad and grandpa...they both cried...

"I remember..."
I hear stories of my Dad
how he would rock me to sleep
patting my back.
But I remember his singing.
I hear stories of my Dad
of his tender guarded love for me.
But I remember his voice.
I hear stories of skinned knees,
flushed cheeks, and tears.
But I remember his hand
on the back of my bike.
I remember reading stories,
hide and seek in the dark,
tickling til I could take it no more.
I look back and remember;
I look now and more than ever
know of his love

"for grandpa on fathers day"
Grandpa wont you
let me climb up in your lap again
curling up close for a story
snuggled up against you
on that plaid yellow couch
take me in the backyard
i want you to swing me up high
my arms outstretched face to the sky
while i pretend to be a airplane
i want to be five for one more day
