I got a job...sort of.

I got a temp job at a lunch spot in an industrial area. I started today and I've never worked anyplace that was set up so stupidly as this place. It mostly serves paninis and soup, some espresso drinks and milkshakes too. I showed up and didn't get any training, just got thrown into the lunch rush, burning my fingers on the hotter than fvck soup. The milkshake making area is as far from a sink as possible. The paninis are assembled at one end of the front area, but grilled and plated at a totally different spot. The dishwashing area is in a tiny closet space that is really dark and the sink didn't drain as well as I would like it. They don't have a recipe for the milkshakes...I was told to "eyeball it".

Oh well. At least it's a job. And it did feel nice to actually be doing something today.

I'm still hoping for something better.

Thanks WS. I don't expect to like it, but it will help out and it's not like I have a ton of other options to allow me to be picky.

So think of it as a money making thing (no matter what amount) in the interim.

yep. and I figure working is better than not working, even when its not what I want to do. I just have a hard time when a place is so obviously set up in a very inefficient manner and when important things aren't working as good as they should be.

Hmmm... sounds like they need a manager, "Melissa the Manager"!!! An opportunity possibly? Sounds like they need you and you obviously have some good ideas about more efficient operations

I was mostly self-taught in my working-world days... thank God for inefficient and incompetent employees; it was those people that allowed me to show that I could learn and do their jobs better... progressing to a higher level

Ya know what. . . it's a paycheck and a paycheck is more than a piece of paper, it's a sense of accomplisment. Hang in there.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. It won't be so bad. I'm sure today was the worst of it. Mostly shocking, really. Shocking that a place can appear to be so professional, but once you step behind the counter, it's an entirely different scene.
