It's starting to feel like a real apartment
When did your apartment/home start to feel like a real place?
I bought a couch today and a widescreen 43" tv yesterday. Once they arrive, it sill start feeling like a real place. The only furniture in the family room is a papazan chair from Pier, a coffee table and this small entertainment center for the old tv, cable box, vcr and dvd player. Not much in the sitting department if friends come over. |

it's starting to feel like a real apartment when...
...you've cooked a big stinky meal and the place smells more like garlic and olive oil than paint and cleaning supplies. ...the cat has stopped howling at the empty walls and marked whatever he needs to to feel he's established his territory. ... you finally have all of the crucial people, corporations, and agencies sending mail to this address. ... you figure out where to park so that you can park the same place everytime you pull in. |

My last apt was a studio and it finally felt like a home when I got a frigerator (instead of my dorm size one), a TV, and a couch. This way I could eat and sit and watch tv and forget about all the other stuff I was missing. This time, I think it will feel like a real apt when I get a nightstand and some endtables and a coffeetable and entertainment center and cabinents and a new front door and area rugs, lot and lots of area rugs, and a bedroom door and these painting of dancers that I have been wanting and a new couch and my bunnies. And a few other items. But that is all.

The first "your stain" on the carpets will help cement the "its my home now" feeling.
Pictures on the walls, must personalize vertical spaces. Blast some of your music too...it removes the ghosts of the vibrations from the last tenant's bizarre musical preferences and accustoms the walls and nails to their new vibrational state. Consciously ceremonially/ritually burn something indoors, whether it is a cigarette (if you are a smoker), a joint (if your "that" kind of smoker) or some incense or even a match for the sulphur smell...classic demon/ lingering spirit dispelling ritual...wave the smoking item around and dispell spirits from all corners of the abode (of course this is just superstition and as an atheist I suggest this only as a "feel good" ritual not as a factual scientific means of dispelling things that don't actually exist). |
