Fashion advice, please...

Ok, so I've never owned any brown clothes because of the whole no black shoes with brown clothes rule. But I found a skirt awhile ago that I really like and it's a chocolate brown with nice flowers on it and I haven't worn it yet b/c I didn't have shoes to go with it. I went shopping today and found these boots hoping they would work. What do you think?

The skirt is knee length and the boots hit mid-calf.

Oh, thanks! I've never really been into brown clothes but there is something about that skirt that I really like and I wanted some boots to wear with it, but all the brown boots I looked at were so boring or too narrow for me or with a scary, skinny heel. My bf said it would work, but I wanted a second opinion.

Thanks, Surbhi! I think I'll keep them. Now I'll have to buy other clothes to go with the shoes.

That skirt and those boots were destined to be together! Now we need to see a picture of you in them!

Good choice on the boots, although finding things to go with them I think will be tough.

I'm all about the brown clothes, because I'm a redhead. Sometimes I don't pay attention to the brown/black rule.

Those boots look just fine w/the skirt, melissa. When can we see a pic of you modeling them?

i like the boots and i like the skirt, but i don't think those match. too many patterns, i also don't like low boots under a knee-length skirt.

but, those boots (i want those boots ) will look absolutely great under jeans! under the skirt, i'd wear shoes that make the beautiful patterns on the skirt stand out.. like high brown boots, or slim sneakers (high or low)

examples from zappos.com that match your criteria:

my vote would go to the last pair of boots i posted and the last pair of sneakers (MJ's, really..)

what do you have to wear on top of the skirt?

Frieda, I totally agree with you about the knee length skirt-taller boot combo. That was really what I was looking for yesterday, but all the tall boots I saw were just so stupid. I also agree with you about the options you posted and suggested: the last pair of boots (those are really cute!) and the last pair of MJs (those are crazy cute!!!)

I have 2 tops I can wear with the skirt. One sleeveless knitted top that makes my boobs look huge, but I have to get a sweater to wear over it 'cause it shows some of my tatts. And one long sleeve fuzzy shirt. Both are the light brown color that is in the skirt. And I bought some brown tights yesterday (called Espresso color ). I think it'll all work out.

And Joppa.gal! I agree with you that it's going to be hard to find clothes to go with them, but I think I'll have to get some nice brown pants and another pair of jeans for casual friday and I'll be set.

Thanks for everyone's feedback! I appreciate it so much.

love all the shoes posted here.........i have a pair of addias almost identical to the ones frieda posted except mine are lace-up......anyway just wanted to add my two cents that the old rule of "you cannot wear black shoes with brown clothing" no longer really applies ....i wear black shoes with brown all the time and if you don't trust MY fashion sense....check out vogue etc....they show a lot of it. And BELIEVE me I used to NEVER wear black shoes with brown which sucked because I probably have 25 pairs of black shoes in my closet at all times....i know.......sad

bottom line wear what's comfortable for you......and I LOVE the boots you bought may I ask where you got them????

RMR, I got the boots at Nordstroms. They are my very first Nordstroms purchase. They were $99.95 and they are very comfy. I'm going to wear that tomorrow so I'll take a picture of it on...for everyone who has asked.
