please help the disabled

can someone please explain how to move around with crutches and how to not fall off the toilet with one very heavy leg stretched out, and how to get up from the sofa without banging the sore leg into everything, and how to shower with one leg in a cast, and how to sleep with one leg up?

thank you

i fell, coffee.. it was stupid..

yeah spicy i fell off the toilet. my toilet is pretty low, and i have to keep my leg stretched and kind of elevated or it hurts like hell.. so i wanted to get up from the toilet and my leg was too heavy and i fell between the wall and the toilet bowl banging my leg into the floor.
yeah, i know.

Re: please help the disabled

I broke my leg in the 5th grade. I will help as best I can.

This takes some getting used to. By the end of the 6-9 weeks you will be a pro. Practice walking up & down the hall at work during your break.

Hold onto the sides, or the tub or sink, whatever is closest.

This also takes practice. I think I sat in regular chairs for the whole time. You use the crutches, but it's a pain in the ass.

and how to shower with one leg in a cast,
You put the casted leg in a large garbage bag & secure with rubber bands. then you leave that leg outside the shower. If the cast gets wet at all, dry it using a hairdryer.

Use one of these:

Put it upside down on the bed, the top of it closest to you. it will make a small ramp for your foot to go up on. Get used to sleeping on your back, if you don't already.

Hope this helps.

I had every color toenail in the book for 6 weeks. Rainbows, sparklies, you name it. I miss 1985.

cast cuddles! hahahaha!!

i want one of these!

thanks pfp! that's some great advice!
i guess i just have to practice with the crutches.. next week i'm getting a cast i can stand on and walk with.. it'll be a lot better then i hope!

i bought a plastic stretchy bag thing to put my leg in when i'm in the shower.. not sure if i can stand on one leg for that long though..

sleeping sucks, i keep getting my foot stuck in my bedsheets. i have to find a solution for that too.. i can't believe how inconvenient this all is!

thanks for the nice words everyone

it might be easier to take a bath and have one leg hanging over the side...but I guess that depends which side the faucet is on..

In the shower, rest the casted foot on the toilet or on the side of the tub. You will learn to wash quickly. MAKE SURE THE RUBBER BANDS ARE TIGHT AROUND THE TOP OF THE CAST!!!!! Nothing smells worse than a wet cast 3 weeks later. It will be better when you get the new cast, yes.

Bend your casted leg at the knee using the crutches, that will help. If you CAN bend the knee, they had me casted up to the thigh.

Untuck the sheet from the bottom of the mattress. Fold it up over your foot. I've been doing this since 1985, and as God is my witness I will never again sleep in a bed w/the sheet tucked in at the bottom. Make sure to wear socks though.

And don't forget the painkillers.

got a big box of something that's called Tramadol. the box says "warning, may suppress pain symptoms of lethal injuries" so i think i should sleep very well tonight ha! i am going to try your sheet trick!

i don't have a bath tub though, i have this 4-walled shower cabin.. going to try and put a plastic chair in it tomorrow..

yeah i can bend my knee, it stops right under it
