Talking

On Air America Radio, Randi Rhodes just explained that the reason the Bush camp wanted the seating at the VP debate to be behind a table, was so that the audience wouldn't see Dick Cheney's cloven hooves. Hahahaha!!

Are you going? I bet if you told them you were undecided, and they didn't find out you were a zemonkey, they'd have let you attend!

I think John Edwards is hot, but I hate that thumbs up thing that he does. It is so cheesy. I wish he would stop it.

we should do a debate drinking game tonight.

And The Winner Is ... Edwards

NEW YORK, Oct. 5, 2004

John Edwards continued the Democratic ticket’s winning streak in Tuesday night's vice presidential debate. He was judged the winner by uncommitted voters who watched the debate, just as John Kerry was last week.

_Forty-one percent of these uncommitted debate watchers said Edwards won the encounter, while 28 percent chose Vice President Dick Cheney. Another 31 percent thought it was a tie.

Immediately after the debate, CBS News interviewed a nationally representative sample of 178 debate watchers assembled by Knowledge Networks who were uncommitted voters – voters who are either undecided about who to vote for or who have a preference but say they could still change their minds.

_Both men and women gave the win to Edwards, with 42 percent of the women giving the edge to the Democrat. Another 25 percent picked Cheney. Among men, 40 percent thought Edwards was the winner, while 32 percent picked Cheney.

Edwards also greatly improved his standing among the uncommitted voters. Cheney made more limited gains. Nearly half of the uncommitted voters said their opinion of Edwards has changed for the better as a result of the debate. Just 14 percent had a lower opinion of Edwards. Another 37 percent didn’t change their opinion.

As for the vice president, 32 percent said that their image of Cheney changed for the better, while 15 percent said their opinion of Cheney worsened. A majority, 53 percent, did not change their opinion.

Asked whether Cheney and Edwards have the ability to become an effective president, 59 percent of uncommitted voters said Cheney has what it takes, and 56 percent said the same of Edwards.

The North Carolina Senator is better liked than the vice president, with 82 percent of the men and 72 percent of the women saying they would like Edwards personally. Half of both the men and the women said Cheney was likeable.

Eighty-two percent said Edwards shares their priorities for the country, nearly twice the number who said this about Cheney. The vice president did receive higher scores on leadership qualities, but majorities said both candidates had strong qualities of leadership.

_Most (56 percent) of the uncommitted voters also said the vice-presidential candidates would influence their vote for president in November. Another 43 percent said the vice-presidential candidates would not affect their vote.

Uncommitted voters in the poll graded the candidates with a sliding scale using remote controls. In this real-time evaluation of the debate, Edwards scored well when he talked about the administration's failure to capture Osama bin Laden, and in discussing the war in Iraq. Edwards also did well when he talked of putting pressure on Iran and the Saudis in order to help make Israel safe.

The vice president did especially well – and especially well with women – when he talked about the administration's achievments in Afghanistan.

When Edwards gave his account of Cheney’s tenure at Halliburton and that company’s dealings with Iran, he registered very high approval with uncommitted voters. Other than that exchange, neither candidate did especially well when they attacked each other directly.

_This CBS News poll was conducted online by Knowledge Networks among a nationwide random sample of 178 uncommitted voters – voters who don’t yet know who they will vote for, or who have chosen a candidate but may still change their minds – who have agreed to watch the debate. Knowledge Networks, a Silicon Valley company, conducted the poll among a sample of adult members of its household panel, a nationally representative sample given access to the Internet via Web TV. The questions were administered using the Internet.

This is a scientifically representative poll of undecided voters’ reaction to the presidential debate. The margin of sampling error could be plus or minus 7 percentage points for results based on the entire sample.

I like it when John Edwards tells people that someone to their side, like a brother or cousin, is safe on the other side with the family pet.....Or when he says that he sees yellow roses, which means forgiveness. So that whoever has died wants to let the living know that they are forgiven by the one who has passed away...

Oh wait! Wrong John Edwards.

Never mind.

My favorite part of the debate was when Edwards spoke about how many millions of people have dropped below the poverty line since Bush took office.

Cheney replied in part with how great is was that 1.5 million people are now paying no taxes at all.

So 1.5 million new ultra-poor that don't earn enough income to pay taxes is a good thing????

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
