Question
Do you think it's possible to be SO turned on by someone's mind that their appearance really doesn't matter to you?
I just finished having this conversation about Sartre and Hegel, email interchange, with this person I just met (no not the 21 East Village kid) ... and I am so turned on right now I may have to excuse myself to the bathroom. I swear to God, a stellar intellect, one that can do circles around me, is SUCH a turn on. Have you ever experienced this? Or conversely, have you met someone who's just so absolutely beautiful, but no brains, and that's done it for you? Or, or ... have you talked with someone without having met, and then were disappointed or turned off BY meeting them? |

from my side of the world....
Hotties are usually assholes with no brains at all...good for bootie calls. I know there are smart ones out there that are nice, but in my experience they are all arrogant pricks. This makes them ugly. I have always become attracted to guys that I could talk to, even though they aren't the drop dead kind you would leer at walking down the street. I find they become attractive in my eyes, the more I get to know them.

//I swear to God, a stellar intellect, one that can do circles around me, is SUCH a turn on.
Have you ever experienced this?// Yep. //Or conversely, have you met someone who's just so absolutely beautiful, but no brains, and that's done it for you?// Nope. //Or, or ... have you talked with someone without having met, and then were disappointed or turned off BY meeting them?// Yep. A guy's sexiest organ is between his ears. It helps if he's also moderately physically attractive. I have personal quirks about physical attractiveness (EVERYONE does). But a guy who's not only extremely smart but a good abstract thinker and who has a sense of humor -- well, that's the guy for me. If he loves physics AND metaphysics, can converse about Dadaism and Bauhaus and Prairie style and Frank Lloyd Wright and organic philosophy of architecture and yet has common sense and common enough sensitivity to understand structural engineering and like baseball and ice hockey and if he plays music or sings, look out. *sigh* And if he's also a techie, a programmer, a Trekkie or a sci-fi fan, double look out. ![]()

Yes, but I don't necessarily want to have sex with them, I just want them to keep stroking my brain. If they have a spark in their eyes that reflects the one in their brain, then they are often attractive anyway. I swear to God, a stellar intellect, one that can do circles around me, is SUCH a turn on. Have you ever experienced this? Yes. Or conversely, have you met someone who's just so absolutely beautiful, but no brains, and that's done it for you? Once. It left me unsatisfied. Or, or ... have you talked with someone without having met, and then were disappointed or turned off BY meeting them? Yes. You can develop an image of what they are like and they may not match the image. Some people are charming or witty on the phone or the internet, and yet when you meet, you discover that they cannot look you in the eye (*stare at your chest*), or they have poor manners (*park in wheelchair parking and 'hock a loogie' in the parking lot*), or don't deal with people respectfully. I once went out with a very famous architect. A blind date...We had spoken on the phone and he seemed nice and educated and well travelled. He turned out to be a little egomaniac. Talked of his passion and his lovers. Snapped his fingers for the waiter then asked for tomato soup, and a small freshly baked roll, with milk on the side (skim, not 1%)and told him to make sure that the soup boiled. He actually asked me..."So, how do you like 'The Zack' so far?" I told him it was late and I must go home. He said he wanted to take me to Egypt and show me the world. I said "Thanks, but no thanks". I was home by 6pm.

In answer to your first two questions, that would be yes and yes! Sim and I met online, on a message board, years ago. Before I ever seen a picture of him I knew that he was the most amazing person I’d ever meet. I told myself, just wait, wait until you see a picture and meet him before you trip over your own feet. At first sight of his picture, he had this major, unruly beard going on. I totally didn’t care. When we met I had drove 8 hours north to the Hamilton, Ontario airport where he flew into from Alberta. After consulting on the phone, IM, email for 6 months the time came to see if all of these feelings were true. In the middle of the airport this 6’6” god of manliness came striding to me and swept me up in a kiss that I could still feel. From the first words we spoke online, to this day he still the most handsome man I have ever met. If I never had eyes to see he would always be that to me. Needless to say though, he’s never had the bushman beard again.
