Watch out bank account! I have already begun bidding on a gift for Sim! I'll probably lose since it's my first time!

I bet there are plenty of ebay pros here to give you pointers (not me though).

Yeah, I hate being one of the clueless newbies.
I'm all confused over shipping. . . Is there a way to estimate how much you think it will be w/out having to ask the seller?? It's automatically listed for the US but I'm in Canada and even when I do the 'search w/in Canada it still has costs for shipping in the US. As a beginner I just want to buy w/in Canada in the beginning. Just until I get my fins a bit more wet.

Congrats, Zaftig. Being a 5-year eBay "veteran", I'd like to offer two words of advice:
caveat emptor "Buyer beware". Read the description of the item you would like to win/purchase very carefully. Make sure you know exactly what the item is before you buy. Why do I say this? Well, twice I purchased something, received it, & it wasn't what I thought it'd be. Did I return the items? No, because I felt that I didn't read the item description thoroughly (sp?) enough. As I'm sure you know, there are good & bad sellers (& buyers, if you plan to sell) on eBay. Use caution (& your own judgement; especially if a seller/buyer seems to be a bit shady), and you'll do fine. Good luck! ![]()

http://www.xe.com/ Don't hesitate to ask the seller a question. Most of the time, the sellers welcome questions, & I know that eBay encourages it too. Enjoy yourself on eBay. Let us know what your first purchase is! ![]()

It's best to just ask the seller about shipping. If absolutely unable to do so, I'll just assume it's going to be some uncomfortable amount and factor that in to my final maximum bid. Most sellers are fair about shipping; once or twice I've even been charged slightly less than what the shipper paid to send the parcel. I do look, when the parcel comes, and respond accordingly.

I just bid on something small. A light switch plate.
Just 1.22 CAD.I just found another auction for the same thing ending very closely for .01. BLAH! I just wanted to start with something small. I guess i'll eventually get the rhythm of this all. I do intend on selling eventually. I figure if I get the hang of it after I buy a couple things and all is said and done I'll get the feel of things. Thanks so much for the advice ladies! I'll probably be back with more questions! ![]()

I've got loads of good things off ebay - old books mostly, but my husband bought me a piano for $20!
