I ran a division of 40 creatives for a company that was aquired by Boeing. It gave me heart problems, panic attacks, and grey hair in my beard... I'm all better now... except the beard hair color thing.

Yep. I guess. I work at home and regularly put in 12 - 16 hour days. But I also get my workouts in regularly and get drunk with friends every now and then. Which came first the chicken or the egg - I work alot because I don't have much of a social life... or I don't have much of a social life so I work alot.

I work for myself... this doesn't happen. If a customer calls after 2:00 on a friday, I don't pick up the phone.

There's more to life than work... so I'm ambitious. I want to make a chunk of cash and then live well... REALLY well.

5. What was the last thing a coworker did that you wanted to throttle them?
Demanded a raise that was undeserved and ill timed... I didn't throttle them... I quit.

I work 20 feet from my bed creating cool educational games for kids and making pretty pictures that move. I'm living the dream, baby.

How are you at your job?
I guess I'm alright. Most kids have fun with my classes and I hear "wakatta!" ("I understand!") fairly often. I was told recently by a professional teacher that I'm refreshingly flexible and happy. That was nice.

I'm a workaholic when I want to be. I can focus in on a job and ride it out when I feel inspired to. The trick is to get to that point.

Depends on the project, the Friday and the Monday.

Life lived properly, there is no such thing as work. Only things that are more or less fun.

5. What was the last thing a coworker did that you wanted to throttle them?

My last school had a run of new intensive teachers. One of them, an older woman, came and sat in one of my classes. I'm always welcoming to guests, parents, whoever wants to sit in. It was my last class and I was giving my students some pointers to keep up on their skills. Renting movies is a standard one- it keeps their listening skills sharp. As I suggeted it, she pounced on me in front of my students, telling me that I was an idiot for suggesting such a thing- movies don't reflect perfect language use. She does have a point, BUT there were so many ways she did that incorrectly.

Anyway, we debated back and forth in front of my students- my students watching their normally laid-back teacher turned passionate. The manager came into the room to talk with the students to answer questions about the next term, only to find the students watching the two teachers debate like it was a tennis match.

One of the students interupted, asked the manager what he thought of renting movies to practice listening skills. And he said he was all for it. The more the merrier. The teacher just grumbled and left. She was not well liked by the end of the term. She had good ideas, but her execution was WAY off.

6. Describe your dream job.
Anything my heart is into. Nothing else matters.

7. Who's been the best boss you've ever had, and why?
I've never had one exceptional boss- most of them have been good in their own respects. I keep in contact with some of them, others I'm happy to move away from.

See above. Although, I did have one manager that asked my star sign before my name to make sure she didn't schedule me with an incompatible sign. She and I butted heads more than once after that incident.

9. At what age did you enter the workforce ... what job was it? I started "work" at 16. In the student store in high school- I was the only person the marketing teacher could trust to have keys for the helium tank for blowing up balloons.

10. Do you plan out your vacations on an annual basis, or do you just go when you're burned out?
I go whenever I can. Haven't really planned many vacations as they are usually "required" of me (ie. I need to leave the country as my visa is running out..)

I think I've said this before...I'm one of the fortunate few that has been able to meld my work life into play life. So I would have to say, this one- the one I'm living right now.

Ah...If you count school as work, I was working full time and going to school full time my last year of college. Why? I needed to pay college and I wanted to move on with my life.

13. What's your current job now?
Teaching kids and adults how to speak proper American English. I also teach French and how to make a paper airplanes.

I did have a long standing crush on one coworker. We always flirted, but didn't do anything. A few years after I left, I went back to help with a function. We kissed afterwards, but that was it. Never saw him again.

I dated a friend of my bosses once. That was too close to the cookie jar, considering she was attracted to him too, even though she was happliy married.

After those two incidences, my policy is steer clear of wrapping work up with personal life. Unfortuately, I haven't been able to do that- since then I've worked several different jobs that either included my 24 hour assistance and/or had my boyfriend at the time be one of my coworkers. It can be done, but it's a tightrope walk.

i'd work till 8.30pm, order pizza, and after that do my usual friday night things. the rest of the weekend i'd work at home, but not too much. but NO coming in early. never!

i've worked irregular hours for 2,5 years, and i never could take a day off, because we didn't have enough people. if i wanted to take monday off, i had to work friday or tuesday. whenever i could, i went.

hmmmm.. had 3 really good vacations.. one when i was 17, went to the south of france with a friend. then there was the trip to Orlando/Miami 2 years ago and the week Las Vegas last year..

Hahahahahaha...this job is so messed up at times this is laughable. Try 58 hrs straight, doing something every 15 mins.
Or leaving for work and coming home 11 days later after sleeping in 8 different beds. Or travelling in one straight shot from home, car (1/2hr), train (1 hr), plane (8 hr), car(4 hr), plane( 1 hr), small boat (1 hr), onto huge oil tanker to work (about 20 hours later with all the waiting in airports etc..)
Probaly pushed over 120 several times....usually about 60-80 nowadays.

Petroleum Surveyor - but driving a desk nowadays, running about 40 guys.

Boat hull cleaning. Some boats were so nasty with sea life. As I would be scrapping off barnicles and such, all the brine shrimp and little wormy things would be swirling around me and I would feel them crawl across my face. After finishing up, would get out of the water and would see them crawling all over me plus I could not get the smell of the harbor out of my wetsuit, car, house for months after a quit. Only thing good about that job was that I was ripped from all the swimming I did all day. First and probably the last time I will ever see my six pack stomach muscles.

depends on the job, but usuall I am the best out of the rest.

I am a bi-polar workahalic. There are days I will just bust my butt till I drop and love it, and there are days I will sit and think it might even be to hard to type a reply on Ze-frank. I am a crammer. I love waiting till the last minute. I am pretty good at knowing when to get on my horse.

I would guess my current boss is. This job isn't so demanding, so I really can't fairly compare him to anyone else. Then there was Christine my boss at a resturant I worked at.. That was the best untill our feelings for each other ended.

Costa Rica was very adventurous and was maybe right up there with it. Watching a Volcano go off at the end of the trip was so exciting. I though I was going to die, it was so loud.

Rollerskating clown. I was 15 and desperate for cash. Babysitting wasn't cutting it so I talked my best friend into preforming at kid's parties as a rollerskating clowns at the local rollerskating rink. We would work for tips. It was going pretty well until one day it all went horribly pearshaped. My best friend was dressed up as a boy clown and the party of 9-year old boys tackled her to find out if she was really a guy. I skated down to the other side of the rink as fast as I could and started picking boys off her where I could. It was awful. The parents did nothing to stop their darlings. I think they thought it was funny. (Looking back, it was, but not then.)

He was never prepared in meetings, he never knew what was going on in the art department and he sold Amway while he was on the clock. He used to call up people who were looking for jobs telling them of a business opportunity and to meet him for lunch where he would try to rope them into selling Amway for him. Sick. The publishers finally busted him for embezzling. (ha ha ha ha ha)

Anually. We have the Texas Star Party (one week) every year and then we figure out what do with the rest of it. Guess it'll be a lot shorter this year. *sigh* I miss three weeks vacation.

Such a touchy subject. My work life is so schizophrenic... I feel like my real job is performing, even tho' I hardly ever get to do it... and I don't really get paid that much.

Selling perfume on the street for a multi-level marketing company. "I know this sounds kind of crazy, but do you like Obsession?" No life at all... I couldn't walk into a store or restaurant for years afterwards without feeling like an outsider... long, long story.

I can be. I guess the answer is "no", since I think that implies you don't know when to stop. I now know when to stop. Sometimes that's after working three days straight...

I'm with Amanda. Depends on what it is and what I had planned for the weekend. If it excites me or if necessary I begin immediately.

I am ambitious, but most of my jobs are to make money to do what I really want to do. If a job becomes too invasive or overwhelming, I find a way to escape. (Not so in the past. I have let jobs overwhelm me and my resources and have lost precious ground as a result.)

5. What was the last thing a coworker did that you wanted to throttle them?
There was a guy I worked with three or four assignments ago who, besides being an ignorant, condescending ass who would blather on and on about subjects he knew nothing about (especially opera... grrrrr....the barrage of the erroneous), had a habit of taking reference folders from my desk area and handing them to me in the hall while I was out & about to be returned instead of putting them back himself. We had a conversation about it. He stopped. We got on better after we discovered we shared a love of single malt scotch.

Traveling around the world to do regular stints as a classical singer and actress - sometimes opera, sometimes theatre... a movie or TV appearance once in awhile. (Just watched a good portion of the Appendices to LOTR - that sounds like just the thing...)

My boss at Navigant - she was amazing, low-key, great sense of humor and of what to "keep" & what to "throw away"... very smart and very kind.

Hard to say - there have been a few doozies. Usually it has a lot to do with abusive personalities - not necessarily yelling, but more insidious - the way they treat you, like you're beneath them & your work isn't appreciated and you're not doing it fast enough, anyway. Can't think of one in particular.

I was about 14 or so when I started helping out my parents with their document preparation business... proofreading mostly. At the same time had a counter job at Yum Yum Donuts. Blech. Put me off donuts for a long, long time.

Vacation? What's that? Temps who want to be performers don't get vacations.

Come in early monday (and probably sleep in anyway). I'd probably make it just in time to squeek it through, killing the three people that interrupted me along the way.

I'm ambitious to a degree. As long as there's a challenge. Once I determine that I am capable of accomplishing a given task, it is no longer enjoyable and becomes a pain.

I run all of the systems in a training lab. One of the instructors came up to me and said (this is an exact quote) "Hey Jason....um....what am I doing?"

7. Who's been the best boss you've ever had, and why?
My current boss. She leaves me alone and gives me room to get my job done. She trusts my opinions and backs me up when I make decisions that people aren't that happy with (if they are the right decisions). She's fair, and ...most of all.... she can take, as well as dish out, a joke.

16. I worked at Burger King for 45 minutes. A guy dropped a hamburger on the floor, the manager told him to pick it up and use it like it was all ok. Bye bye.

I just go. Whenever the feeling strikes me.

58 - - I'm paid by the hour and the time counted while I was on the plane when they sent me to the UK. I go to Australia in March....OT baby!

1. What's the worst job you've ever had? (yes, I know this was a membership q, but spill it here anyhow).

this is quickly becoming the worst job i've ever had. before this it was working front desk at 24 Hour Fitness. another case of incompetent management

i'm really good

2. Are you a workaholic? Why, why not? Insight! Insight!
depends: if i like what i'm doing i work like a maniac; if i'm not happy with my job i do nothing.

when i'm working on one of my many passions i'll work 7 days a week, all day, all night.

3. A project's landed on your desk at 4:50 pm, Friday ... you finish your work day at 5 pm usually. It's a major deal .... what do you do? Do you stay and finish it? Do you take it home? Or do you make plans to come in early on Monday?

Sunday night i come in and work on it until 3 AM.

4. Are you ambitious ... or are you "there's more to life than work"?

both. i want a successful career, but if the rest of my life suffers i stop living and start existing. been there, done that. everything must balance.

5. What was the last thing a coworker did that you wanted to throttle them?
i want to jack my boss in the jaw. that's an ALWAYS thing.

our controller talked to me in the third person. i hate that.

theatre, film, fighting for my beliefs.

Paul Shy. he worked harder than anyone at the company and treated everyone with respect. then he quit and the asshole was fired. horrible transition.

Mike Geiser. he does nothing, he's self-aggrandinf, he's thoughless, smug, and has no respect for his employees.

childcare at 11
at 16 i started in the official workforce, behind the counter of Boston Chicken.

when i need a vacation i take a vacation.

ooh, tough. my best vacation was a working vacation, teaching in the mountains of Wyoming.

12. What's the most hours you've worked in a week? Why?
70+. higher ups came on a Friday and said there was something that needed to be done right away. i already had a shitload of overtime, but came in on a Sunday and worked from 1 PM until 3 AM.

13. What's your current job now?
i am the Managing Projects Coordinator for a light and sign installation and service business.

14. Ever had a crush on a coworker? Dated them? What's your dating policy at work?
i dated a coworker when i was 16. not since then. i have dated people i've worked with in theatre, but that's pretty common in that industry. i'm very good with turning business on and personal off when working. people who don't understand that i have no interest in.
