Karol Wojtyla

Not a religious person myself, but just thought I'd say a little farewell.

"I heard the news today, oh boy..."

I felt sad when I heard that The Pope died today. Not in a religious sense, because I'm not a Christian, but sad for those who loved him. And also, he reminded me of my great aunt who died last year; they both looked somewhat similar towards the end. I couldn't (& still can't) stand to see how he looked; it just freaked me out too much.

RIP...

My favorite memory of Pope John Paul is one that Dave Barry mentioned on a radio show I heard him on once.
Seems when the Pope was in Miami, they did a grand processional all through Miami, Coral Gables, and Coconut Grove.
One particular Catholic Church, in order to show their excitement, had t-shirts with the Pope's picture and the words "Il Popa" on it printed for everyone in their congregation to wear.
According to Dave, "Il Popa" actually translates as "potato". They should have printed Il Papa, the correct name for the Pope.
So, when The Pontiff drove by their church, he saw an entire congregation of people standing outside in t-shirts printed with his face and the word "potato"!
I like to think he found that funny...
