Thumbs up My snake ate twice this week!!!

I've had my ball python, Severus, since late December. I was told by the guy @ the reptile place where he was purchased that he eats (thawed, of course) frozen rats. Being the naive person I was, I thought this was the way to go.

Needless to say, I tried several times to feed him thawed frozen rats. He was somewhat interested, but didn't go for it. To make a long story short, I was getting anxious because he hadn't eaten (but seemed to be doing fine).

Last Sunday, I went to a local pet store & purchased a feeder mouse. I figured I'd give it a shot, & if he didn't eat it, I was only out a small amount of $. I put the mouse in Severus' tank, & waited to see what happened.

I never saw something move that fast! It was incredible, & I was dancing around like a fool (which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, really). I won't go into details, but it truly was incredible to watch. A few days later, aka this past Thursday, I decided to feed him again (as I thought he might still be hungry). Went back to the same store, bought another feeder mouse, & had the same results.

I think I've posted his pic before, but here's Severus again:

Beautiful, isn't he?

Pax,
LC

You have to warm them up. Every creature, even one I am deathly afraid of, deserves a warm meal. I babysat a kid who had a snake & he ran frozen mice under scalding water to thaw & warm them for his snake.

Absolutely, pfp. I stuck the rat inside a ziploc bag, placed the bag in a bucket of hot water, & waited until it was properly defrosted & warm before giving it to my boy.

The first time I did that, I got slightly nauseated. Got over it quickly, though. And you know something? It makes for a great story too.

Hahahaha, maybe you should saute it for him in garlic butter next time. Glad to hear he is eating now.

Really? A little talk about reptile's eating habits makes JT want to hurl? I'm surprised.
