Thumbs up DEEEETROIT!

hey detroiters and michiganders and such.
it's nearly time for the detroit electronic music festival!
you are so lucky to have this fantastic event on your doorstep.
i was there last year and it was a jam. loads of fab djs from
all over the world but especially the greats from detroit. my fave
was terrence parker who played a really firing gospel house set.
the best part of all was the crowd - a real mix of ravers and beat
boys, ghetto kids and funky suburbanites. at one point we were
dancing in the middle of the afternoon with a couple of five year
olds, a woman dressed like a gypsy fortune teller, a guy in a strait
jacket and some vietnamese boddy poppers.
if you want more info check here

So jealous...

I left Pontiac when it was a bitchin' hell-hole to move to angelic Portland, OR. Now there are some cynical things I miss greatly. The music scene, and the days of wandering decrepit hotel halls to find the City Club in deserted downtown Detroit is a fond memory (ironically). I hear they gots casinos now. hoooooo whee! Fancy!

I went to Detroit, on purpose, only once. Prince was there; even he couldn't get me there again.

dinz - you can be a miserable old wet blanket if you want, but i was just
expressing enthusiasm for an event which i found excellent. if you are jealous
or don't like the idea of it stay away.

i like detroit although it is clearly a city with a lot of problems. how did they
manage to make such a mess of it?
