she called me today. grr drives me mad. we talk for a couple of minutes, and then she starts talking to the cat in a baby voice (eg telling him off for eating the plant, or clawing the carpet), and telling me off for not knowing every little thing that they're doing at home (today it was - mum: i'm going out tonight. me: where you going? mum: tut to a village meeting. i told you last week! honestly, it's like it doesn't matter to you any more!)

way to go! i refuse to be intimidated by card companies such as hallmark which manipulate our latent guilt feelings in order to boost thier profits. be nice to your mum all the year round. buy her things when you feel like it. make it a surprise. no offence max, you are obviously a thoughtful and sensitive chap, but i will not be bullied and emotionally blackmailed into doing nice things, i want to do them spontaneously.
