'gee, i wonder what happened'

i know these guys at work, doug and tom. Tom used to be my old partner, tall kind of awkward looking guy, balding but shaved his head to save a little face. About 35ish. He recently just had his first baby with his wife..used to carry a picture of them in his wallet.
He and i worked a few weeks before getting transfers... i remember he always used to go on and on about how the night shift was getting to him, and how he felt that his kid was growing up around him and he wasnt there to see it happen.

Doug, was about mid 40's... very obese man. Not well, chronic smoker, and he also had narcelepsy... it was kind of humourous, ol' douggie used to fall asleep at the drop of a hat. We'd see him sitting at his desk one second, the next out like a light. Doug had three daughters, an ex wife that lived up around the corner from him so he could still see his kids grow up.

Last night, doug and tom were carpooling home after work, as usual we said bye in the parking lot.. and i saw them drive off just like any other night.

Cept last night, a woman decided to have too much to drink and use the exit ramp as an entrance ramp on the 401E - just as doug and tom were driving westbound on it.
It took one frantic 911 call by someone before it was too late, the car smashed into doug and tom head on killing them both instantly.
here is the article from the paper this morning

It goes to show you something. Things like this happen every single day, on the roads. It only seems to hit home, when you know the persons involved.

One day you could be working hard, saving up for that holiday or boat you've always wanted. the next day you're driving home from work on a wednesday, and just up and over the turn lay your fate. We have no control over what happens.

If tom had of known, at the time when we were working together that he had 60 days left to live - do you think his priorities about his newborn child would of changed drastically?
We have a habit of forgetting what really matters in this world, and its unfortunate that it takes circumstance like this to pound the point home.

If you have a loved one, son, daughter, parent or whatever - the next time you look at them think about what fate lies ahead of YOU, and be cherish your moments on this earth.

And the next time you're stuck in that traffic jam because of the 4 car pileup ... you may not know whos involved, but should that really matter anyways.

That really sucks I hope you have loved ones around you to help you deal with this, it's really tragic. Live for now is what I thought when I read that, who knows like you said.

I am really sorry to hear about your friends, if I was that woman, I would wish that I had been killed as well.

The morning my late husband left for work was like any other. RTeminding me to drop off the dry cleaning, that he wanted boiled ssalmon for dinner (you could tell i was a Pacific Palisades Matron akak Ladies who Lunch). I went from riches to rags. More importantly, lost the one dearest to me. Live and love every day as it it were your last. My prayers are with Tom and his family.

p.s. possiby Tom's crusing around heaven in this pair of wings. I'd like to think so.

I am so sorry JT.

Here is a link to a site of a young murdered woman. I know her uncle. But, I am sending this site because of what Julia's (the deceased) father said. I think it can apply to family as well as friends.
