No, this is not an obscure He-Man reference.
The power for my immediate area was out today for 4 hours, and it just came back on 10 minutes ago. Hooray!!! Needless to say, this whole thing threw me for a loop. I had to make an emergency run to Tarje for a few basic supplies, and it got me thinking. (Oh crap, here she goes again.) Do you realize how dependent we are on electricity? Every aspect, well, just about every aspect, of our "modern" lives is based on power. Fancy things like fridges, computers, microwaves & so on don't function w/out electrical power; & quite honestly, neither do I. Could I survive w/out electricity? Probably. If I had a choice, would I? Hell no. That's my thought for the day. Aren't you glad you read it? Pax, LC

I, too, enjoy electricity.

Four hours! No TV, radio, Internet??
Yup. We are dependent. And there are millions of us. Does anybody else worry about the water supply, or is it just me? I know water and electricity are two different things. Water is absolutely necessary. |

There was a time when they thought the tap water here could be contaminated, so they told everyone not too. People ran to the nearest grocery store to get bottled water. I can never see us running out of water, but ya it is a necessitie. I mean we could live without power, but not without h2o.

Of course it is, but it is pretty difficult to get everyone to do that. My mom works at a water company (SRP) and I grew up living with water conservation. My mom used to make me take a five minute shower when I was growing up. Outrageous sometimes, but she was really big on it.

there are tons of "commericals" reminding us to conserve as muhch water as possible (with tips n such) even the movie theater has ads before the movie usually they are from Water - Use It Wisely (they actually have some interesting stuff) and we get a monthly newsletter from SRP - the electric/water company - telling us all the stats on the water supply n such |

I also lost electricity, but yesterday, after a transformer blew up nearby, for about 4 hours also.
Conspiracy? Not realizing a conspiracy was afoot at the time, I unconcernedly boiled water on my gas range and blithely made coffee using a hand crank grinder and french press. And since the only phone that worked was the ancient reliable non-fax, non-cordless, un-hackable conspiracy-free Bell telephone down in the garage, I spent the rest of my disconnected and oblivious time down there doing fiberglass repairs on my boat. It was like a 1/2 day off from work. little did I know... |
