something I've noticed recently...

Just lately, I've noticed people using "eta" where I would normally see "i.e." (which means "that is" or "for instance", literally id est).
In my experience, ETA means "estimated time of arrival". Is there some new abbreviation or acronym that's come into use?

Here's a usage: "Cream your sugar and some kind of fat (i.e., butter, shortening, lard) together, and then beat in eggs one at a time."

for instance is abbreviated "e.g."

and it should really be "(e.g. butter, shortening, lard) together, and then beat in eggs one at a time."

Egg 1: Boy, it's hot in here

Egg 2: Wait until you get out, they bash your head in.

I love that joke.
